The owner of the Catalina is a diehard Pontiac guy from the late fifties. The car is stock as far as I know.

Now that's a pretty sight! Where are all of these cars hiding in that neck of the woods? The only time I see anything like that around here is at the Simione Foundation car museum.

Those catalinas have always been a favorite of mine and that one is extremely rare. Your 63 looks great too.

They are not hiding but you won't see them at a cruise night. Many of these cars are in private collections and I am fortunate to know most of them. I respect the owners privacy though and don't divulge that information. I on the other hand don't own a trailer and drive my cars including the max wedge.

Well good on you and thanks for the pictures. Gotta respect a car that can be driven too and from where the pictures are taken.

Nice picture. I remember watching SD cars from packer pontiac and royal pontiac race the ramchargers at detroit dragway back in the day.

Bill Blair has several Swiss Cheese Catalinas. They were not many made. The frames and everthing else are full of lightening holes. Those were the days. The Maxwedge Mopars had GM and Ford wondering what hit them.

Acouple of fine examples of real muscle cars! It's a shame more aren't visible to the public! I don't particularly like people that hide them in private collections.

Bill Blair from High Point, NC used to promote Nostagila Super Stock Drag Races. Lightweight Fords, 409 Chevy, S.D. Pontiacs and Max Wedge Mopars that kicked butt and took names. Bill once owned one of the 63 Ramchharger Dodges with acid dipped and alloy front end. Everyother spring was cut out of the front seat. He sold it to a collector in Jersey and it ended up on Barret Jackson for stupid money.

My understanding is the Dodge Polara 500 like mine was not availalble with the light weight front end, not that I am complaining. I just can't believe someone buying the top of the model line with a max wedge. It still left everything at the alter, just with a little luxury.

Two very fine cars. Ron

Thank you one and all for the nice compliments. My friend and I are very proud of our cars.

skyman, beautiful cars i do like the Catalina to, When i was in votech i had a 2 door 63 and used it to work on to help me learn in class. Same color to (no scoop). Thanks for posting been a long time since ive seen one..

Detroit dragway 1963

I remember watching SD cars from packer pontiac and royal pontiac race the ramchargers at detroit dragway back in the day.

We must have been hanging out at Detroit Dragway at the same time..... I was there most weekends in the early and mid 60's.

Here are a couple pictures I took in May 1963. Two pictures are of the Golden Commando's, H/T & wagon, one is Bill "grumpy" Jenkins 62 409 Chevy and the last is Dave Brennans 62 "Dearborn Steel Tubing" 427 Galaxie. Sorry for the poor quality, these were shot with an old brownie box camera.

Both excellent cars and I'd be proud to own both!!

I believe Pontiac even experimented with using cast aluminum exhaust manifolds on the early SD cars. Not sure of the details other than I don't think it worked too well!

Check out www.countycorvette.com

They have an absolutely dead on recreation of Dave Strickler's 61 Chevy 409, "Old Reliable" The original car was destroyed. Grumpy did the motor in the original and also built the motor in this recreation. The car runs as good as it looks!
