Am replacing the PS box on my 67 Coronet 500, 318. Question is, do I have to take both ends of the pitman loose or will it come off the shaft at the box?

It'll come off the box but you might have to use a puller. Sometimes you can 'work' the area around the shaft with a hammer with a hammer back up like you're doing body work and it will come loose but then again, a puller can help with that too...and you don't want to hammer it very hard because there's a bearing up in there.

Hey Mightymopar ,were are you getting your new steering box at,i need one also for my 65 Belvedere

Got it from Firm Feel in Washington state. $549.00 including shipping and core ($175.00 core) 1-800-347-6426. They will spend as much time as needed to get you the box you need. Finally got mine out. The SM said to remove it from underneath. After much frustration I took the battery and the holder out and snuck it out that way. Aint lookin forward to tackling the reinstall. If I end doing it out the top I think I will drain and remove the radiator. It was way to much in harms way.

i can vouch for it being a pain in the :bootyshake: my two fingernails just grew back from when i finally got the box loose and smashed my figers between it and the engine block.

I swapped mine out from underneath, pulled the pitman arm first and removed the starter then it came right out.

You can rebuild these too. I had about 5 of em that I brought to my buddy and he did em all. Would have to dig back in my file for the parts info.

I was thinkin about attempting to rebuild my old one. Some say it is very complicated.
