Hi.
I am going to remowe the engine and want to know i there is a possibillity to leave the headers on. 440 with hooker headers. I am just changing camshaft and putting it on the dyno. Would save a lot of job. Best to let the 727 go at the same time?

Johan

If you have the capability, drop it with the k-frame from below.

Never had a car that I could leave the headers on and pull the engine....

This is the only way I know how to accomplish that....

You'll never be able to do it from the top.... Keeping the engine complete is going to have to be done like Bluefury said.... Lots of luck!! Take lots of pix so we can see how you did it.

that is not an option. Thanks for the tips.
Will take the headers off. Can i let the gearbox stay on the engine when remove.

Yes, you can leave the gearbox on, but be sure to support it. I craned mine up and out with the motor and gearbox attached. Honestly, if you have a crane for the motor, you'll be able to get the car high enough to drop the motor and k-frame together. You can fab something pretty easily to the bumper mounting holes and center the crane and lift it...at least you should be able to.

if you leave the tranny on youll have to raise the front end so the tranny clears the ground. I did my removal solo and was much easier that expected. one other tip that may be of help; leave the headers on until you have the engine suspended on the picker that way you will have much more wiggle room when you remove them.

We pulled my engine and tranny all in one shot from the donor car without even taking the hood off.

short update:icon_mrgreen:

left the left header on and let the right hang loos. pulled the engine and trans together. Worked OKEY. Would have been better without the right header gone. Well you learn all day long.:laughing11:

Now iam waiting for intakerockers so i can change to my new camshaft and specialbuilt intake.
