Anyone using these headers they have? They will get used on a 73 Satellite with a 493 440 based motor. Car has BB k-member, but still has small block inner fender on pass side.

They tell me they will fit with ease. I know they are expensive and I may leave a little power on the table, but I have already tried two sets of headers and I am tired of beating on them.

I heard the TTI's fit well as well. they are expensive as well so I am open to suggestions.

I threw this much money into a car I was just going to "get running", so I might as well get headers that fit.

Thanks

I have no direct experience with them, I do hear though that TTI is the way to go generally.

Ron, its easy to cut out the inner fender on the passenger side or else it will be near impossible to change the plugs with the big block. I have dimensions for the cutout which can be done from the wheel side with the motor and headers installed and then you buy the flap from year one for it.
If you want the dimensions on a photo for the cutout just PM me with your email address.
By the way I have a 73 RR 440 stroker and TTI is the way to go.

I have been thinking of Shumacher headers also. It seems even TTI has trouble with spark plug clearance. These claim that you can get a socket onto the plugs and from the pics they look pretty good. If anyone has them lets hear the real story.

Schumacher headers

I used them on 3 different cars and never had any clearance problems.
A 70 451 RR, 72 500 inch (GTX clone) , and a 65 Belvedere 451. The 65 was a street car and ran 11.90's at 110 mph so I would say they work well enough.

Do the 71 and 72 RR need to be cut out also ? or just 73 and 74's ?

Thanks guys. decisions decisions.

Ralph, I think you sent me that pattern already. I just hate to cut on it after it has been all repainted, but I may just do that. The other two sets of headers I tried were more of a problem on the driver side with the steering gear.

Which TTI headers do you have and do you have any pics by chance?

Ron, i used the TTI 1 7/8" headers with 3 "collectors. If you go to their website and find the installation guide for the header you want to use for your car they give you alot of information on which starter fits etc.

No pictures yet but if you pm me with your email i will take some for you.
thanks Ralph

I recently put a set of them on my 71 Charger and they are snug. I've also had a set on my 71 Duster with 440 a couple years back. I went with them due to ground clearence. I hate scraping and banging heads on speed bumps and the like, so I went with a set of Schumaker's. I get them bare steal and had them powder coated black. They look great but I found that it indeed captured my standard starter after all. They claim that it doesn't but there is now way to get that baby out without some sort of mod. I cheated and removed the lower mounting stud with a bolt and now can wiggle it out, but still really tight. Here are some pics.

Also, the are a few spots that get really close to the spark plug wires, so I used DEI shielding to protect the spark plug boots, just for extra protection.

Love the sound of open headers...

I used the Schumachers and loved them. Yes, they capture the big starter a bit, but ended up putting in a mini, and fit very nice. Great power too! I plan on using them in my Demon with a 451, dont want to cut or drag and like the extra clearence, especially for the plugs. Would post all pictures but seems they are too big

Thanks Guys. That helps alot. I will be using a mini starter and edlebrock heads so it looks like both those issues should be ok as the angled plugs will help.

I appreciate the pics.
