Ball Joint removal issue

I am rebuilding the complete front end and the upper ball joint head at least on drivers side (Haven't gotten to the passenger side yet) appears to have been stripped out whenever it had ben installed. I have the 1 59/64" ball joint socket and tried to lightly tap it on the ball joint but the socket seems to small to fit. The ball joint top however isn't in good shape to begin with. Any ideas on removal would be appreciated.

Hard to see with all that chipped paint but it looks like it's welded on! (I have seen it before!) Wire wheel it off real good and get a better look at it.
 
Yepper welded for sure! I would buy those arms with the ball joints installed! Heck I think I will buy a set for my 69 Charger!! Can't beat that deal!
 
Not surprised seeing them welded.
Very typical when the threads are ruined.
I agree go with the aftermarket uper arms with the ball joints already in them.
Finding good original arms that are not wrecked are getting tougher to find.
 
Hell, oe style arm are reproduced, so that is another option.
 
I have the pst front poly kit coming next week. Should i get the new arms and replace the ball joints and bushings?
 
Replace the rubber bushings with the new poly ones, leave the new ball joints alone,there is no difference to the poly kit. PST may give you a credit for the BJ or sell them.
 
It appears that CPP the seller of the upper control arms has been watching the forum. They raised the price from 132 to 139 since the topic started last night. Not significant by any means but if i can't trust the company to do the right thing up front and being that CPP is now not trust worthy in my mind i will have to chose another alternative. All i can say is anyone dealing with CPP for parts should expect the shaft. BUYER BEWARE
 
I do believe I have a set of uppers from my previous '69 Bee. Took 'em off when I put on the tubes.
 
If you only need one arm I have one but at this moment I don't know which side it is for
 
Took off other side and it too is welded in. The control arms are not that bad of shape. I assume the threads are shot hence the welding in of the ball joints.

Hate to start another tread but i am trying to get the lower control arms off and the control arm shaft is spinning with the nut. I don't see any place to grab onto it.
 
On those lowers it's best to use a impact (will save a bunch of cussing!) also a tip is to use a pry bar between the lower control arm and spindle putting pressure on the nut and sometimes that helps.
 
That nut needs to be loosened with the weight of the car on it, also when tightened.
