I just aquired a set of 11x3 loaded backing plates that come from a 1969 RT car.So here is my thought. In my race car I have 10x2x1/2 brakes. Is she worth the hassell or should I leave well enough alone?

The 11x3's are pretty heavy. Thing is, how well does your car stop now and how much does it weigh and what does it run? I ran a 68 Road Runner 10.60's with the 11x3's and it stopped just fine on a short shut down. The old Houston track only had one early turn off and then the end and it could make the first turn off if I had to. Tried it once just to see but I was on the brakes just as soon as I crossed the stripe and on em hard. They didn't fade but I also had the best shoes I could find at the time. This was back in 84. My plan for my car I have now is to use the 10x2.5 but the car will be much lighter by about 400 lbs....and hopefully just as fast. The rear will have 11" tho. You can have the best front brakes in the world on the front but what good are they if your running skinny front runners? I see so many sliding the fronts across the stripe when they nail the brakes trying not to break out. I see that as being kinda dangerous....

I took mine off and sold them on ebay...Bought a disc conversion ...The best thing I ever did to stop my old girl at the end of the track..

Car weighs at least 3500 with me in the car and does the the mid tens at an average of 124 miles per hr.The 10x2.5 do stop the car but I have to apply then release and reapply so I don't get brake fade.

What shoes were you running? Regular parts house shoes are not very good and will fade.

And what shoes are you running? I'm usually pretty easy on my brakes but still use the best I can find as far as shoes go. Had a 9.90 car that was 2950 without me that had Wilwoods all around and I guess I expected more from those but it didn't seem to be up to par imo.

Jobber Brake shoes

Yes cranky I am useing cermeric brake shoes from our local parts store NAPA.Maybe I will step up to a better Shoe.Thanx For your im put

I have two '65's, one street and one track. I put disc brakes on both. The street car has a kit from SSBC. Heavier than my old drums. The strip car has a Wildwood setup and is lighter than the drums. Both work very well but my race car is less than 3000# even with my fat butt in it. My personal opinion is that the drum type brakes actually have a cleaner release than discs, and if you don't have a fade problem right now, why would you change?
