I am installing a D1SC Procharger in my 68 Charger. The engine is a 9.1:1 68 440 iron head block. The car came stock with power brakes, power steering and AC, all of which I would like to maintain. The kit from the Supercharger store included an AC compressor and power-steering pump. I changed the cam from a flat tappet to a custom ground hydraulic roller. The specs of which are 281/285 114, .568/.565. My question is will I still be able to use power brakes in this setup? Vacuum actuators for headlights are being converted to electric.

I dunno..I had the old style "purple" shaft in my 383 with 10 to 1 pistons...lost my power brakes as well...it was smaller than yours I think...

get an electric vacuum pump for brakes as well?

is that a blow through, pre carb, supercharger?or is it under carb?you have to run an electric vac pump with precarb chargers.that is a big cam for forced induction.if you are trying to build some good power that cam could have a bit too much overlap.

It's a blow through carb. I gave them my engine specs and they designed the kit, which included the cam. I'll go with the electric vacuum. This is a pic from their website but it's the same kit.

I changed to a 73 Demon 340/4speed manual disk Master cylinder (7/8 bore) and got rid of the vac assist set up because even with a vac pump they just sucked. plus the sound of the vac pump at a red light sounded like a very sick cow. It has 4 mounting bolt holes so it,s a drop in. I'v used this m/c 3 different times and the pedal feel/effort has been excellent.
Hope this helps

The 7/8 bore is a standard size? I'd rather have the manual brakes rather than the noise from the pump. Hope to start plumbing fuel system this weekend.

I still use my power brakes with my good size flat tappet cam that is 264 & 270 @ .050 and .630 lift with my 1.6 rockers and it has a 110 LSA. You can see the brake booster on my 63 is pretty big and will store alot of vacum. I can get 2 good hits on the pedal but anymore then that and the pedal starts getting hard. But most normal driving I dont hit the pedal more then 2 times in a row before I go again and build more vacum in the booster. I was actually surprised how well the worked. But with a smaller booster they may not work as good. As was stated you can get an electric vacum pump if you think you need it. Ron

When I put the Lunati VooDoo in mine, I had my vacuum drop to about 5 in and here's my cure. Electric vavuum pump with an on/off switch, reservoir in line, and a couple of one way check valves. Never had a problem after that, but I'd suggest using a higher price electric pump, the one I was using was a little loud. Not overpowering, but always at the edge of my hearing when it came on and off.

It's standard in a 4speed, manual disk, HP 340 car. I've always bought new ones instead of rebuilt. about 90 to 100 bucks.

Wow, alot of good suggestions. I guess the first thing to do is put it all back together and see what kind of vacuum I have before I decide how to proceed. Started plumbing fuel system this weekend. Should be ready to crank by end of year.....hope springs eternal:hello2:
