Gentlemen,

I've started the process of tearing down my 383 (1971) for cleaning, inspection, etc. For the most part, everything looks ok. I am a little concerned about some potential damage around the # 2 cylinder / side of the block. Look at the attached photos. Obviously it was like this when the previous owner painted the block red.

I wouldn't think this would be a problem with leaking and/or weak spot but I just wanted a 2nd or 3rd opinion.

Thanks guys!!

DAMN...posted in the wrong forum. Can someone move please? Thanks and sorry

What are we looking at here? The deck surface is hard to see with all the crud on it so hard to tell if the gasket was leaking.

Oh wait, I just looked again. You mean the outside of the block specifically the three dimples by the dowel pin? Don't worry about it. It is pretty common to find imperfections in this area and so as long as the gasket seals no issues.

By the way, decking a Chrysler block is never a bad idea because they are rarely true to the crank center line.

casting issue, and i don't think its worth worrying about. just use a quality head gasket.

Get it decked it will clean it up and make it run better. And make sure you get the #4 cam bearing in it right so it will oil the rockers, just ask me how I know. Good luck Ronnie
