Prior to replacing parts and pulling the transmission, would like some advice on what it could possibly be. It just started acting up a few days ago, prior to pulling out the center chunk and installing a locker.

Installed a ZOOM Performance Clutch less than 500 miles ago. No hard driving, just breaking in the new longblock. Clutch broke in unlike any other clutch's we used, and burned at nearly every redlight when mildly taking off (proper installation.) Stopped smoking after a hundred or so miles. Will never buy a Zoom clutch again, and am already looking at a Centerforce replacement.

But Here is the issue-
Neutral, clutch engaged (or standard position), no noise at any RPM.

Neutral (or any range of gears) when clutch is disengaged (from 2" to floor board) at any range of motion, grinding noise:angry1:. Also gets noisier as RPMs increase. Car is hard to shift into gears when clutch is disengaged and at idle.

What could be the issue;
Throwout bearing?
Input shaft bearing?
Pilot Bearing?

Sounds like the pressure plate. I have had the springs come apart.
Was it replace also along the clutch plate?

Clutch should not have been smoking on easy take off. did you resurface the fly wheel prior to reinstalling?

I usually replace everything when I do a clutch job.
(clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and pilot bearing,)

Yes, it was replaced.

No, we were not sure if we would be purchasing a billet aftermarket flywheel.

Everything was replaced, it was a ZOOM clutch kit. The Pilot Bearing, TOB, Clutch, etc. is brand new.

We will be dropping the transmission tomorrow, because from everything I have been reading it could be a number of different things. Easier to type in a search engine, than to be turning wrenches for hours on end getting no where. Should be obvious what the issue is. We are going to drop the cover off the transmission and have a look at what's happening with the TOB while the car is running as well, prior to it being pulled.

If the noise happens only when you put the pedal to the floor then it's possible you are over compressing the pressure plate. Back off on the adjustment and see if the sound changes or goes away. If it happens throughout the range of pedal motion then a TO or pilot bushing may be at fault. Did you grease the pilot bushing?

My father thought it was the adjustment at first as well but,
Pulled the Transmission this morning and it didn't look like luck was on our side. The ZOOM clutch with less than 500 miles (Engine Break In) and absolutely NO "hot rodding" sessions is completely gone. Pressure plate is finished, and the clutch disk itself shows the wear of one that has 10,000+ Miles. Pilot bushing (that was brand new) was the issue, and their wasn't much left of it and yes we greased the bushing. I don't understand Almost makes you want to drive to the manufacture and toss it through the quality departments window. I don't believe we are making enough power off idle to ruin a performance clutch package.

Time for a Centerforce Clutch and a Roller Pilot Bushing from Mancini racing...

Call American Powertrain i did and so far there all ceramix street slayer clutch is working great.

Unbelievable. I put some clutches through hell and never had the problems you are describing. Makes you wonder if they used plastic rivets to attach the cardboard lining. At least you found the smoking gun (no pun intended).

It not the product (Zoom)

Seeing it smoke the first 10 mile should have been enough to tell you something wasn't right.

Need to investigate why pilot bushing went bad that quickly-is input shaft on trans burred up, wrong inner diameter on bushing? Correct diameters on o.d. of bushing and i.d. of crank? Possible you just got wrong bushing at parts store?
