I met a guy at a car show a couple of years ago, we discussed 1969 roadrunners specifically because we both have 69 roadrunners.

Mine is a lynch road car born with a 383/4 speed combo, tripple T7 bronze on the fender tag and the interior was all bronze when I got the car, including the carpet.

I'm redoing the car, trying to get it back to original for the most part and I'm going to buy a carpet for it soon.

According to this mopologist at this car show a couple of years ago "all 4 speed 69 roadrunners had black carpet"

I'm thinking mine was bronze....

It is bronze now anyways..

Is there anything to this 4 spd/black carpet claim?

black would'nt look right i think with the saddle interior would look out of place in my opinion.

Yes. The data book indicates black carpet is used with four speeds. Does that hold true for your car? Maybe...there may be changes after the data books are printed. If you know for sure what your car came with, use that.

Interesting, I'm trying to imagine why a 4 spd would be black carpet only?????

The factory 4 speed carpet is heat formed to fit the 4 speed hump.

I would assume that since the assembly plant did not make (I believe) that carpet and had to order it from an outside source it was simply a matter of not having to stock what would be an unknown quantity in various color to meet the order demands not to mention the extra storage area it would consume.

possible, but I can't see carpet overstock as an issue. 4 spds were relatively common and so were the many different color combo's. I worked at the Los Angeles assy plant in 1969(70 model year) and carpet stock would have been the least of the concerns.
maybe 4 speed guys have dirty feet:walk:

First off, I don't know the correct answer to this 4sp/blk carpet question, but I just wanted to point out that the data book shown indicates "black carpet was STANDARD with 4 speeds". It doesn't say that you couldn't order an OPTIONAL carpet color?

Oops, Sorry. In going back to the data book and looking at it closer, it DOES say on the line above the one you highlighted, that COLOR KEYED carpet is N/A with a 4 spd.

My apologies for previous post.

That's cool!! About you working at the LA plant that is. My 68 RR was built there. Can you tell me exactly where it was or if there is anything left of it?

Very interesting info regarding the carpet. I had no idea.

my survivor 69 Roadrunner 4-speed still had it's original black carpet

I was told by Legendary Interiors that all 4-speed RR's had black carpet a couple of years ago when I restored mine.

You never stop learning new things on this site, this is very interesting. I assume the same can be said for `68?

68 data book. Four speed was standard.

I would kill for a L.A. plant web site like the Hamtramck plant.

Mine was also from the L.A. plant, would love to know and here all the story's.

My seats have legendary tags on the seat skins so I know they have been recovered and the top side of my floors have been heavily undercoated then a brown formed carpet has been laid down, I'd age the brown carpet to be about as old as the seat skins....

I don't have a build sheet, I assume it was discarded at the time the seats and carpet were done which may have been in the... 80's?

regardless, I have no physical evidence of my original carpet... So I guess I have to assume it would have been black?

I too think this would look a little odd with the seats and dash being bronze...

My 68RR survivor has black carpet with 4spd and is JJ1 gold with H4N Gold and Parchment interior panels and seats. I know this is correct, as I am the first one to disassemble this car. Also has black headliner.

Hmm, well that does help confirm this. Because gold and parchment with black isn't any more natural or matching than my bronze/saddle tan interior with black carpet.

I guess if I am confident that it would have been black from the factory then that's probably what I will order.

Dave, I think you are right. Use the black carpet. I personally like the contrast of the black and golds or bronzes.

I think it will tame down the storm of browns I have going on lol!!

Thanks everybody with the help on this, very fast replies! I had no idea the interior section got any traffic, obviously it gets quite a bit of traffic!
