I am seeking some knowledge. I have a 66 satellite and it is missing the 4 speed console. This part is hard to find. The knowledge that I seek is... Was this a single year only part? Will other model consoles work in my car? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

66-70 are the same console. The tops can vary. I think the top of the 66 is a ribbed design. Later on the 68 sport satellite and GTX started using a woodgrain top that was actually a metal overlay that covered the ribbed console top. I think eventually in 69, everything went to a woodgrain console top. The base between an auto and a 4 speed are different and obviously the shifter plate is different between the two. The 4 speed console had a unique side plate and I think the chrome trim was different. These are just observations I've made over the years, I'll bet I'm missing some information.

Thanks for the info. I was starting to get frustrated with trying to find one. I just can't figure out why they repop 67-70 but dont list 66 also.

I am not sure about Plymouth, but for Dodge I think they might be different. I seem to remember that in 1967 it was a one piece console and that in 1966 it was a two piece console. If I recall correctly when mounted in a Charger the front piece on a 66 joined up with the rear full-length part between the seats and when installed in a Coronet/Plymouth it had a small piece to finish off the rear of the console. In 67 they went to a one piece unit that was the same in both cars. If so, then the 66 unit might be hard to find. I think I might have a picture if you need one.
Regards,

Now that's something I didn't know. It may very well be the 66 unit is different.

I guess if you are looking for year correct, you may want to find out more details. I'm sure a 67-70 console will fit if you aren't looking to be absolutely correct and it will give you more options.

I've got a 66 plymouth service manual. I'll see if there's anything different with the console that looks obvious.

I just looked at the manual and ChargerPilot is absolutely correct. The console is two pieces and the second piece attaches just after the glovebox where the console turns up. I learn something new every day. Attached is a scan of the console page.

I took a picture of the rear part so you can get an idea of what it looks like...let me know if you need a picture of the front piece.

the other obvious difference is the 66 is a much thicker plastic body than 67 and up bodies.
in my opinion a better feature.

you should mention a prefered interior color for your search.

Only the Charger was different in 66,the other Dodge B bodies like the Coronet was the same. Charger had full length console and 4 bucket seats in 1966. I once bought an entire 1966 Charger that was a 4 speed car just to get the console.I drove all the way from Louisville Ky to Providence RI to pick it up. Thats how hard a 66 Charger console is to find.

There are some people on e-bay whom I've seen selling a re-pop body (the plastic parts). My memory isn't that great so can't remember the price tag but do remember thinking it wasn't that bad for a new base.

Regards,

My 67 Belvedere has a 66 console that has a broken rear piece (green plastic part) the same as this but black that i'm looking to replace if any one has one or knows where I might be able to source one at a decent price please let me know, At this point color isn't important though I would prefer black because as it sits now my job this weekend is to try and glue all the pieces back together, fiberglass the backside, bondo and paint the top side.

The later consoles will work! The 66 was a two piece because of the longer style for the charger! An original 66 will set you back a bunch of money nice up wards $700.00!The auto and std. are interchangeable just have to get the side cover if it's a 4 spd.(repopped)And the carpet kit.
