Doea anyone have experience using an aftermarket sound deadener (dynamat, etc) instead of jute type padding for under the headliner?
Would like the added sound deadening the modern types offer but worried about the headliner flopping around if it doesn't have the thick style insulation butted up against it.

Any pointers?

Thanks!

I've just used some foam from a local fabric store. Worked great IMO. I'd be worried about the dynamat sticking properly over the hot months.

What type of foam did you end up going with? Did regular spray/brush trim adhesive do the trick?
I know the dynamat and similar offerings are heavy but wasn't aware of adherence issues since they market it for underhood applications.

Thanks for the input!

In the past, I've used the rolls of insulation that looks like bubble wrap sandwiched between two foil layers. It's found at Home Depot, LOWE'S, etc.
Comes in various widths and can be applied with adhesives like 3M's spray contact adhesive.

It provides insulation with the trapped air pockets, and radiant heat shielding with the reflective foil. I used it on the entire floor surface and inside firewall, as well as under the headliner. And the price is very reasonable.

The foam I used was just a 1" thick foam. Nothing special about it, I just cut it to fit. Used regular headliner spray adhesive and it worked great.
