Factory lightweight hood

So, why is it a factory lightweight hood ? clearly not because of the holes. although it does make it lighter? No explanation as to why it is a factory lightweight.

I always thought the factory "lightweight" front ends were aluminum. Maybe this is an acid-dipped steel hood?
If it's just a steel hood with the desirable factory steel scoop, I can't imagine it fetching $5k especially with all the holes drilled in it.

Well, the ebay auction is Kramer's who gets top $ for everything. He knows these cars well so I am sure that he knows what he has and IS asking top $ for it.
There is a lot of confusion for people (myself included) with the 62-65 Maxies and Hemi cars. I have not studied them like I have the 1966-1970 cars. Some of these hoods were aluminum and some were steel. Some were acid dipped to lighten/thin the steel. Some say that was a factory thing but I don't THINK so, I think it was done by individuals after the aluminum items were no longer available ordering on a new car back then, but I COULD be wrong about it.
I wish this site would do a description of the defferences year by year from 62-65 so it would be easiler to keep track of. http://www.1962to1965mopar.ornocar.com/welcome.html

It's been a few years since I read it, but Jim Schild's book, Maximum Performance, has a lot of good info following the evolution of the '62-'65 super stock cars from year to year (and on up to '69).

Aluminum noses were available in 63 & 64.The 65 lightweights were a thinner gauge steel.The acid dipped stuff was done by racers.:sleepy1:
