Hey guys, I am an old Mopar guy from back in the day that has been away for too long. I have had the opportunity to purchase some Mopar engines and blocks recently but I don't have any idea of the value. I had a 440 engine and trans out of a rv and a bare block both available in the last month but was cluless of value. I would look at both as core value only what are your thoughts.

Don,

Last spring I paid $100. for a '78 motorhome 440 with 4bbl intake, heads, and valves. No oil pan or valve covers or carb. Since then I've aquired a 426 wedge I'm going to use, but I thought $100. was a good price for what I got. People ask more for the HP blocks, but it shouldn't really matter much unless you need the HP for a correct restoration.

Years?......For me personally not because of block wall thickness myth I like the 67-70 440 blocks just for date correctness of my car but as far as value goes $200 for a bare block in not un heard of around here.

$400 for a assembled block say 70-72. is what I have seen here.

Heads alone well some are better than others 906's vs 915's etc $200 for a set of 915's? or 452's? sure if they have all the parts and still need to be taken into a shop for re work.

Guess it depends on your area and how bad you want them :)

Thanks for the help. I have a 69 Super Bee with the 383 and was just toying with the idea of picking up a 440 block or engine to swap out at some point in the future.

If there is nothing wrong with the 383, I would leave it alone. If it is a numbers matching block, or at least that what it had from the factory, your value could be hurt in the future by putting a 440 in.

It is a numbers matching block, and I planned on keeping it in storage if I put the 440 in just for fun.

I'd go with 'iraqivet'.. I dumped my old 383 yrs. ago for a 440; and have no idea where that 383 is. (Although,a 440 sure puts out a lot more torque)!!!!!!!

$100-$200 would be a fair price.

As long as you keep the numbers matching 383 then I say "no harm, no foul on the swap". It would be better to thrash on the 440 then mess up the 383.
