I have tried decoding my tag on numerous sites and they all say unknown axle option and don't give all the information on the car. I cant seem to upload a picture of it for some reason. I can upload a picture of my dog but not my fender tag, go figure. So here is my best recreation. I would like all the info I can get on this old girl. If someone would decode this for me I would be greatfull.

Thanks in advance Anthony NV

That's a great sticky for owners of 66-67 Chargers. Much of what is there does translate to all model lines or other plants. Some of it does not and could be even more confusing to newbies with Plymouths like the OP.

On line decoders are just general decoders and have flaws. They are unable to describe nuances between plants or time of year. What was coded and when it was coded changes from plant to plant or during the model year.

Humans are able to intuitively work around the flaws inherent in on line decoders.

Hey Doug, long time no see.

I find the problem with some of the online decoders (My Mopar for ex.) is that even though the instructions tell you to line up the information on your tag with the template given, it rarely works out. What I've found is that, in your situation for example, the line you're after says 12345678 AX TRM PNT UBS

When you plug in the "2" under AX it comes up unknown.

If you enter:

1 = 5
2 = space
3 = space
4 = space
5 = space
6 = space
7 = space
8 = space
space = space
2 = A

You'll find that the "2" does not line up under the AX but it will give you a result.

Not to pick a fight, but that charger tag guide did just fine on my 66 Coronet, and does answer the OP's question. Also, it allows for human interpretation, since it's an explanation, and not simply an automated decoder, relying on the input of the user, and the "processing" of the application (programmers).

Not looking for one. The 67 link works great for 67 Chargers but here are some things I notice it does not cover:

the b/5 oddity of Plymouths

d/6 is not listed on the site

j/5 is common on 67 Coronet R/Ts before a certain SPD and then then the code changed.

codes F/3 or F/5

It doesn't describe how to determine the correct intrepretation of axle code A/6

Interior decode is 67 Charger specific and doesn't explain any other interior.

It does not explain a paint code like 884B.

It does not address two tone paint.

Engine codes 21 and 31 are not listed.

On line decoders can be helpful to a certain extent but they have limitations.

They can add confusion to people already unfamiliar with fender tags. They are not inutitive like a human. To get bogged down in the minutae of fender tags would make them unwieldy.

What was coded and when it was coded changed. Code usage also varied by plant. What came on a 67 Charger may be different than on a Belvedere station wagon. Lynch Road may have coded something Hamtramck did not and vice versa.

This is very had to address in interactive decoders but easy for a human to handle.

My two cents.

Let's not get started on Lynch Road :)

I hear we have a "period" Lynch Road former employee new member!

Peace!

gears are simply code 402 which is the 2 under letter which is for a 2.94 (with 8 3/4) and non suregrip . An 8 after the 2 would mean it has a suregrip.

All very simple

Back at ya. That is a great site for 66-67 Chargers. That's not my main area of interest so I did learn something from the site. I'd recommend it for owners of those years and models but no online site can be all things to all people nor can it cover things a human can.

E with 1 is CAP
R with 1 is std AM radio
X with 2 is tint windshield - clear sides

Look guys, I went to that site and got the ratio for my rear end. It was other sites that said it had an unknown axle option. No sites mention the power breaks and power steering that are on my car. Were these standard in 67??? Also that site calls my car tan with gold interior paint but she sure does look gold to me. It is hard to tell from the picture but if you look at the fire wall where it hasn't had any sun it looks gold. Was the tan matalic that close to a gold color? Just trying to clear some of this stuff up.

So that's why I would like some one who knows how to decode these fender tags correctly to decode mine so I can get all the info it gives on my car and let me know why there would be discrepancies. Is this not the right fender tag for this car, which I can't see that being the case because everything on the car is original except plug wires, wiper blades tires and wheels. Or would there be another explanation?

Not all options are listed on the FT. Different plants coded differently. Your car may have been built at a plant that did not code power steering and brakes.

As far as checking to see if your tag goes with your car, that is pretty easy if the original raditor support hasn't been changed. Look on the top of the support or the radiator side of the support for something like *7A1002160.

Have you looked under the seats for a broadcast sheet?

Thank you. I haven't checked for a build sheet. Where is it located? Isn't it supposed to be in the back rest of the back seat? Do you have to take the back seat out to get to it? I cannot see any thing from the trunk. You guys are awesome and I appreciate all your input and help. Thank you.

If you scroll down to the bottom of the first page on Hamtramck Historical, Barry lists places to look for a BS http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/

You can also do a VIN search to see if he has anthing for your car: http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/found.shtml
