Anyone put one of those new keisler RS 5 speeds in a car yet? I was thinking about installing one in my 70 RR but would like to hear feedback or problems with this new tranny. Thanks

hit up Wookie316, he is about to put that in his 71 charger super bee

FYI - As I understand these are not new transmission but rebuilt units - They lost their contract to buy new Tremec transmissions

I put a new Tremec in my 71 Charger. You can go to this FBBO thread where I talked about the install,

swap auto to 4spd

The RS trans is a new unit of Keisler's own design. They do sell rebuilt (T45s?) units also, as I understand it. The RS trans is a pretty slick unit and shifts really well. I would call them for availability and check other forums, also.

I was over on the a body forums I don't know if they have actually released certain units yet. I will ask wookie. Also talking to Mcleod about their unit we might actually see it soon.

Not trying to rain on your parade, but when I did my research last year there was a lot of bad things said about Keisler in general. Much of it is why Tremec stop doing business with them. I was origianal going to buy from them, but steered away because of it.

I have heard bad things as well. right now im leaning back towards Mcleod or Passon. Still just wanted to see if anyone had bought one or installed one of the new ones yet. I wonder if they know how much bad press they are getting.

if they are similar to the tremac units i put one in my 69 coronet. went from auto to 5 spd with very little alterations. i also used the hydraulic clutch which was no problem.

never heard anything bad about passion and its straight bolt in

About the Passon units....

I read a bunch from the owner about the Passon tranny's and they are not ready for prime time just yet.. He speculated that by around mid year he should be ready to release them for sale.

He is having trouble with the case leaking through the aluminum. They are looking into various way to seal the inside of the case.

A bit about the unit.. It is a ground up design, and as the owner said, "using a clean sheet of paper", not a rebuild, or conversion of an existing case.

This unit will most likely be the best bet for upgrading your 4-speed to a 5-speed as it is a direct replacement for the A-833. I was said that you could do it in an afternoon. No special bellhousing or high tolerance clutch to deal with, just R & R and you're ready to go..

The price is estimated to be about $4200.00. Granted, that buys a lot of gas, but the stress on both car & driver are reduced considerably.

A fellow MOPAR Club member put a Keisler unit in his Baracuda and recently drove to to Arizona and back. He said it was the best long distance cruise ever, just because they arrived without any stress. He was able to cruise at 75 - 80 MPH and get 15 -18 MPG as well. Not really remarkable, but he had been getting 10- 12 in the past.

I will be looking for one of these when they are released.

I've had a Keisler TKO for nine years now, no problems at all. Did the hydraulic clutch a few years ago, sure saves my left leg in traffic!

A guy I recently met put one in his 69 Z28, and said it was the best upgrade he ever done. Averaging 18-20 mpg with a 3.73 gears with a cammedup small block

I put a Keisler Tremec TKO 600 in my 73 RR and things went pretty smooth.

Love the shifter and internal shift rods.

I have not driven it much but this year I will be good mechanically all the way around and will put sopme miles on it.

Just added a Mc Leod dual disc clutch and flywheel.
Best ralph

I know this is an amazingly old thread but I just had to resurrect it... LOL!!

Hey Gregs70, do you any pix of the clutch master cylinder and how its connected to the clutch pedal? Would love to see how it turned out.

Hopefully in a month or two we will have more people telling us how 5 speed installs are going

Early TKO here. 8 years. 2-3 high RPM shift problems. Otherwise OK. Promises and bullshit from both Keisler on the SS700 and delays from Passon on the 5 speed. How long must we wait. Underpromise and overdeliver. They don't know how to do that. I saw Shafi making excuses why a Hemi Charger got butt kicked on some TV Show. Come on. Get it right. Nothing but talk at this point.

And furthermore, in the 60's we had people with Vision who could get the job done. Like John Herlitz. As a result we have 70 Hemi 'Cudas and 71 Roadrunners. No excuses. Just the best timeless automobiles to grace the earth.
Now we have all the technology and still have excuses from both Passon and Keisler.

good luck on your decision

ok, here is my poop on this. if you are looking for old school 4 spd performance or feel, forget it. if its economics you will get it, o/d. due to it being a direct shift into tranny not a side mounted shifter you can't crash shift from 2nd to 3rd like the old days. you will also have to cut a hole in the floor pretty much in the center of the floor tunnel. the hyd hook up is similar to a brake system but smaller, ie: shaft through fire wall to a small clutch reservoir. make sure you spec the o/d ratio right for your rear gearing ratio. i put in 3:90-91 ? and i could really handle 4:10-11. anything under 60 mph and it is just about lugging which for around here unless you are on the freeway the desired speed is 50 mph. not lugging.
would i do it again, probably just for the economics and to have a standard tranny in one of the cars i am keeping. as for taking this car to the track i won't because i have another with a tricked out auto and much more hp. i have more photo's and info but my mouse broke and its a pain doing old school.

p.s. shoot me a pm and i will give you my # for ear to ear info if wanted. rick

Anyone ever try a good old Doug Nash 5 speed? I know they are not an overdrive but with highway gears and the extra gear on the low end wouldn't it all work about the same??

I've been thinking about a Gear Vendors overdrive. This way, I get to keep the great A-833, but gain a nice overdrive when I need it.

Anybody with any feedback or experiences with Gear Vendors?

My car was an auto I converted to manual. Initially I planned to do a 4 speed. Had to modify the 4 speed tunnel to fit the Tremec since it was an after thought. Recommend using their tunnel over a 4 speed tunnel. Less modifying. It took a bit of test fitting, but all went well. I used a hyd clutch as well. I got my stuff from American Powertrain.

Cannot comment on the performance yet. Only have 18 miles on the car. CAN'T wit till spring!!!!!
