has anyone had there six pack set up rebuilt? If so where was it done and are you happy with the results.

i do my own stuff on 6-paks. they're very easy to rebuild. i just wouldn't pay the hundreds of dollars to have someone rebuild them. the tune-up tips are what the average guy should be looking for. there's a lot of garbage out on the web that makes simple upgrades way too complicated. my best advice is "do your own"; learn about them; they're not rocket science.

I've been doing them for 25yrs as pictured.Other than like this you can do them yourself,if you can take them apart you can put them back to gether, like Lew said not rocket science !

you do nice work.

Thanks, are there any really good places to find the how to's on this. Such as diagrams and complete exploded views of the carbs?

exploded views are in the intsructions found in the carb rebuild kits. there are hows and do's on the web, but i think most of it is garbage. in my experience the real problems with the carbs are the built in emissions. basically the carbs are too lean. if you want to drive then you will need to richen the idle circuts on all three carbs and the main metering in the center carb. this isn't a big deal. the real hidden problem i've noticed thru the years is the intake manifolds. i bought my first intake in late '69 and it was machined so badly i should have thrown it away. instead i spent time and money trying to repair it. of the four edelbrock intakes i've had only one fit. of the last two i've bought both were machined too wide to bolt to the heads. anyhow, just take it step at a time and try not to let things get muddied up by people who i've never owned, or ran a 6-pak.

where are you guys getting your carbs replated? They look beautiful.

I had mine on and off my T/A so many times i wore the fuel line nuts off! I finally found the little adjustment screws in the front of the baseplates. After i leaned them out it was game on. That motor would scream and it was slam worn out. When i pulled the rod caps the piston slid down and head the head! All the bearings showed copper. I replaced all the bearings and oil pump and kept on trucking! Should have kept that one. Oh well. I learned a lot from it.

that is a nice view of the carbs. would it be too much to ask if you could send a picture of the other side. There are things missing on my carbs and would like to see what else I need, thanks again for the great pic.

other side. i have other pics if needed.

I did my own carbs on my Super Bee last week. Its not rocket science but for someone that has never done a Holley rebuild it could be quite intimidating. Take your time and have a large clean area to lay out the parts as they come off. By a 5 gallon can of carb dip to clean the parts. After you have cleaned out all the parts take your time reassembling them. Make sure to remove the lead plugs for the idle screw adjustments on the outboard carbs. This will allow you to adjust the idle mixture when its running. The rear carb is near impossible to adjust on the car while running. I adjust the center carb first and then the front carb, then shut off the engine and swap the front carb for the rear one and adjust the front carb now. It should run just about perfect.

I buy most gaskets in bulk, haven't bought a kit in years, have enough excess that I will probably never need to.

great photos thanks again. where do you get your rebuilding kits from?

I bought premium Holley kits, they come with a lot of extra parts but are worth the money IMHO. Kit numbers are 3-396.

I heard of a company that makes new base plates that moved the rear adjustment screws to the outside to make them more accessible. On the carbs I owned the shafts were worn and were a little lean from excess vacuum leaking arount the shafts. the new base would help that along with the adjustments. IMO new maybe better than dealing with worn 40 year old carbs.

Promax makes the base you are refering to,it does save a lot of aggravation. When I bought mine 7yrs ago they were $100,now $175,it does not include throttle shaft and plates.
