I have a 72 Road Runner with a 440. It has a MSD Distributor, MSD Blaster 2 Coil and an MSD 6A Ignition Box. My question is do I have to use the trigger wires. I have added a pic from my diagram. I am just not getting any spark. The motor just spins over and over. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks For B Bodies!

Hey RRGTX72,
We did NOT use the White wire coming off of the MSD Ignition box in our car. We are using a Mopar Electronic Ignition box, but the installation is exactly the same. It is mainly used as a test wire, unless you're running points. We had a VERY similar issue. Make sure you run the switched 12V to a solid 12V source (one that is TESTED 12V while your ignition is in the Run position, Not one that shuts off power while in the Start Position). We had to wire ours in with our Electric fan. Everywhere that Summit and MSD stated would work, would not. So the constant 12V was ran to the starter(rear mount battery) and the switched 12V to a 12V standalone switch. Call MSD, Summit Racing, and they can lead you through the testing procedure (to see if you are getting spark.)

I did not use the white wire on my gTx either..I,m runnin msd6al,with their dist with a retard box also..

on some ignition swithces have two live wires one is a run (on) wire and the other is crank (on) wire ,maybe you hooked up the wrong one for power???
just my two cents worth!

Thanks everyone for the inputs. I finally got the old girl to crank. Turned out I was 180 off on my spark plug wires, but now I have a different problem. It doesn't want to shut off with the key. I have the small red wire plugged into the battery terminal on the fuse box. I had it plugged to the big red wire from the ignition switch, but didn't start it. Where do you guys have that small switched red wire running to? I am also running the dual ballast resistor and voltage regulator running through the existing car wiring. The factory electronic ignition wiring is just taped up. Are any of these components still needed? If not, how do I bypass? Thanks again For B Bodies! You guys are great.

The small red wire from the MSD can be hooked up to your existing wire that used to connect to the coil +.

Thanks Meep! I will try that this weekend. All I have to do is splice in right?

That wire from your harness should go to the small red wire on the MSD and you can verify with a test light or meter that it is controlled with the key. Only wires that will go to the coil will now come from the MSD - orange and small black. Good luck! If you have a tach don't hook it to the coil as before. Use the "tach" hookup on the MSD box.

Thanks Meep-Meep! I hooked it up to the old positive coil wire and she fired right up and shut off with the key. I really appreciate the help. :headbang:

The only thing I can add here is I used a jumper wire to connect the two poles on the ballast resistor. No need to go through it anymore.

Hey Meep, I just posted a problem in this forum, but you're kinda touchin on it here. I hooked up the grey tach wire from a new MSD 6al box to a factory tach.(or maybe an in dash repacement). now when I turn the key on the tach needle goes all the way up and pins itself as high as it will go. I haven't started the car since recent rebuild. 70 Coronet r/t 440.

I posted on your original question...
