I'm trying what to do about wheels & tires on my 65 Coronet 500 'vert. http://1962to1965mopar.ornocar.com/mmo62008.html

Anyone have any other ideas besides the ones above? There's only a few aftermarket wheels I like and the Torque-Thrust's are one of those few.

I'm probably going to do 205 or 215/70/15's on 15x6's up front and 255/60/15's on 15x7's or 15x8's on the rear.

I rode to high school many days in a friends 1965 Coronet 500 in the same color as your car. It was a 361 4 speed console car. It had Torque Thrust Ds with the charcoal centers and looked REALLY nice. That is what I voted for. There was no real good factory option except for the spinner hub caps which are easily stolen on the street.

Voted for steelies. I think TT-D's are way too sporty for a cruiser-type car like this.

TT-D were the wheels we used when I was in college in the 60's. I think they look awesome on our B body cars.

Too sporty? They were THE look back in the day. Young guys in the hobby have a mis-conception that was born out of others restoring their cars per the broadcast sheet, which often called for the base wheels and "bottle caps." That is what we called the center only hub caps back in the day.

What the young guys fail to realize is that the buyers of these cars new ordered them this way (which was standard and cost nothing extra) because they intended to soon take their new car to the wheel shop and put aftermarket wheels (such as Torque Thrusts) on the car along with headers, intake, carb etc. if it was a performance model. Hub caps and full wheel covers were considered the look of your "dad or mom's car." The ony time you saw a young guy keep a set of wheel covers was in the case of the "simulated mag wheel" that was often seen on 66-67 Chargers.

The young guys in the day couldn't get those steel wheels and bottle caps off of the car quick enough. Us old timers that were around in those days still LAUGH at these cars with the standard equipped wheels. The whole idea was to IMPROVE the look of the car and it's performance.

i put steelies on my car cuz its what i like not cuz its sporty or not and i dont care if anyone laughs at my car anyways lol

i like coke bottle americans on 60s cars

Here's some pics I've taken with Crager SS's and some steels w/ dog dishes. I'm NOT going to be using Cragers (a friend let me borrow them) but I think it give's a good look @ what the Torque Thrust's MIGHT look like. With the steels, I would use the red-line Dodge caps, and the paint would be an exact body color match (what's shown is the closest thing I could get w/ a spray bomb).

Personally I don't like the steel's as much as I thought I would. The car is a Coronet 500...it's supposed to be the high level, fancy trim package, and while the steel's look good, and look better than the factory spinner hubcaps, they give it more of a taxi-cab look than I thought they would.

I'm going to borrow some Magnum 500's this weekend hopefully and take some pics of them to post.

$ is also playing into this too, and I can get a pretty nice deal on Magnums. The cheapest would be steel's as I already have (2) 15x6's, and would only need to buy (2) 15x8's for the rear, plus caps.

Feel free to comment.

those are American CP 200's
technically american racing s 200,s. i just always called them coke bottles or daisys due to the spoke shape. kinda fat in the middle like the side panels of my car.

I like the TT-D's but it seems like EVERYONE has them, Cragars are my personal favorite but the cost! I'm still looking for the right wheel for my Magnum, not ricey, nearly period correct but something that will also give it more of the muscle car look. I've found plenty of the Magnum style rims but most are 14s which just won't work on a big car. Decisions, decisions, decisions.....................

At this point the score is 33 to 9 in favor of wheels other than steel wheels and bottle caps. So, I guess it is as it was back in the day with people wanting a wheel upgrade.

However I really think that the only guys that didn't get custom wheels either couldn't afford them or were just all out racers that didn't care about cosmetics and put their money into performance mods.

I like the old NSS look with TT-D's up front and steelies on the back. So I vote both the TT and steelies. Ron

No one ran hub caps if they had steel wheels it wasn't cool. But 99% of us had after market wheels and for mopars TTD'd and Mickey Thompson sloted mags was the hot ticket.
Around 69 the Craigers and Keystone Classics also became hot for mopars. I can't ever remember seeing a Road Runn, Super Bee, GTX or Charger before 73 sitting on a dealer lot with steel wheels and no hub caps or with the van dog dish hub caps.
