So I lost brakes going down the road last monday night. Turns out or what my dad and I thought it was was the master cylinder, because there is no brakes fluid leaking out anywhere on the car. So I went to bumper to bumper and got a reman put it in and still don't have brakes. The brakes pump up but then once you start to move the car and then hit the brakes the pedal goes to the floor and the brakes barley grab to stop the car. I have bled all 4 corners, and bench bled the master and also re-bled the master in the car but still no luck. What am I missing? I feel dumb and am getting very frustrated, any help would be much appreciated. By the way this is on a 65 coronet 500 with manual brakes and drums all the way around and single reservoir.

Thanks

Yes all the shoes are fine, it feels like there is air in the lines but when i bleed the lines nothing but clean fluid comes out.

Just because you put a difftent master cylinder on does not mean its good.
I have gotten plenty of bad reman's
If you pump it up and stand on it does it stay up or does it drop?
Count to at least 30.
If it drops try pluging it. Try again, of you get a dropping pedal then fluid is leaking past the cylinder.

When I pump it up and then stand on it the pedal stays where it is it does not sink.

Rebleed your mastercylinder. then rebleed the lines from the furthest point. Make sure you do not let the mastercylinder get low.
if that does not work, you might have a leak in one of your wheel cylinders.

Eratic brake pedal

When I pump it up and then stand on it the pedal stays where it is it does not sink.

Take a look at the rubber hoses, two front and one between the body and axle in the rear. They may appear ok but if original or just old may be deteriorated inside. The interior rubber can act as a one way valve sometimes.
If they are the originals it would be wise to replace them.

NEW DOES NOT MEAN THAT ITS GOOD.... did you bench bleed the master cylinder before you put it on the car?..if so and theres no leaking lines. my guess is the replacement M_C is junk. best way i found to bleed these old brake systems is to crack open the bleeders at the wheels. fill the M_C full and gravity bleed them. you HAVE TO KEEP AN EYE ON THE RESERVOIR. Hope this helped .

as stated above the next thing to check is the rubber hoses.
you and also pull the drums and have someone slowly depress the pedal. watch the wheel cylinders for movement.

Im pretty sure that the hoses are original to the car, the wheel cylinders looked ok when I had the drums off a couple of weeks ago. Now when I went to move it back into the garage the rest of the way the brakes squealed really bad, it wasn't a there wet sound it was really high pitched. Ill just have to go over everything the next day I have of of work.
Thanks everyone for your help.
