i've heard 24 psi??? is that right?

tires are firestone wide ovals G-70 14's. and they are in pretty good shape me reckons...road-worthy even! lol so i want to give them a shot for a half a season or so...

We have repro redline bias ply wide ovals on our '68 Coronet R/T. We also had them on our '68 Charger. I put 30 psi in them, and I haven't noticed any loud squealing.

Call a local museum...they may have some tires like that.

Heheheheheheeeeeeeee

Not your local museum..........but I've got a few old relics around too!

ATLAS PLYCRON........H78-14's on the left

LEE GT300........... G70-14's on the right

Maybe we can start an online tire museum? These are circa 1972 & 1973

Yesss !! I remember we used to sell "Atlas" products back in the garage those days... and "Lee" oil filters, too !

are your tires the bias-ply looking radials, or actual bias-ply?

bias-ply is made with fiberglass, right? in a biased (crossed) pattern?

Yeah, here too. The "Atlas" brand was sold through my cousins STANDARD OIL gas station where I worked for a while. Standard later became AMOCO OIL.

The "LEE's" were sold by the local SUNOCO station. Had them on my Super Bee for a while. Both stations are long gone, but the Super Bee lives on!

Coker list max pressure @ 32 for the g70-14 wide oval. I'd probably run then at 28-30. Rumor has it that some have run bias plies and even survived, some even had drum brakes. Oh, the horror

WOW an 8 year old post revived. I run 28 in the front and 24 in the back.. seems to work just fine with both the new Goodyear Redline Raceways and the 30 year old Polyglass's....

That's weird, i don't know how i even came across this thread to post on it. Maybe someone else posted then deleted, idk.

Tires...bias ply... old...hey, does anyone still do retreads? :D

I drove some F70-14 Firestones in 2004. Still in 2012 and today.
I have 30 psi in them all around and evrything is fine

Fact, anyone driving at any speed faster 45 mph a tire more than 8 years old is looking to need at the least body work or at higher speeds an injury accident. For the guy talking about fiberglass in a tire, that was the belt material regardless of whether it was a bias ply or radial ply carcass.
Tire squeal will be worse at lower pressures but is typical of the bias ply tire. Run max cold PSI on passenger tires, have the alignment ( toe especially ) rechecked and adjusted as needed. Just beware of old tires, check your DOT codes. Old tires are dangerous, even if you think you are lucky and have gotten away with driving on them.
