Help, I install new suspension and steering parts on my 69 rr, upper & lower ball joints, all upper/lower bushings, tie rod ends & sleeves, pitman arm, Idler arm. I made preadjustments to the wheels, need to get front end align BUT I can't leave the driveway without the driverside upper control arm hiting the lip of the wheel rim. What did I forget to do? Thanks for helping

I JUST DID TO MINE WHAT YOU JUST DID.... the wheel rim is hitting the drivers side upper control arm????? did you mark the upper control arms and put them back where they belong? i have no idea why thats happening unless you switched the upper control arms and put them back on opposite sides......maybe......hell i dunno !

What wheels are on it ? Wrong back set ? Not enough tension on the torsion bar ?

Hey, Thanks for replying, I did one side at a time so no mix up there, I got stock 14 inch rims with no spacers and drum brakes , I'll try a little more tension on the torsion bar and recheck the cam adjust again. thanks again

I think, as to the indexing, he means did you set the adjuster all the way open before installing the t bar and not partialy or at all, Thus allowing for proper adjustment. Im trying to visualize where it is hitting the rim. Is it hitting at full lock, partial turn, left turn or right both, through up and down travel or just static as it sits ? I can only see the UCA hitting the rim if the cars ride height is to high (the t bars to "tight") assuming the wheels are the proper offset.

the upper and lower control arms move in "tandem" with the wheel and are bound by the spindle.....that means they all move "
together". theres no conceivable reason that the rim should in any way be hitting the control arm. are the same wheels on it now as when you started? im stumped and this makes no sense what so ever. im just dying to find out why its doing that!

i just did all this to my 70 runner and had absolutely no issues at all!

I agree. Unless the wheel is set in to far the UCA should not be able contact the rim, regardless of it positioning whether up or down. However, conceivably, you could have the UCA at its full travel (car up - spindle down) and make contact but again the there is not enough travel for that to occur with the proper wheel offset.

Same here man....:edgy:

What size rim and backspacing? Stock configuration, I can't even imagine the UCA hitting the inside of the rim, even if it was Airborn............Just the good ol' boys, Never meanin' no harm......

Thanks for the replies, yes, I had the adjusters all the way open before installing the t bar, and they are stock spindels. The uca hits the wheel weights after coming out of left and right turns then going straight, I remove the weights but the uca still hits the lip of the rim, not all the time but after a turn of the wheel. It does not hit with up/down travel. I'll work on it more tonight, as a last resort I will trailer it to the front end shop tomorrow. Thanks again to all feedback.

Hi, I readjusted the cam/ casters and raised the front end a little more and made it to town for the alignment with no problem. Thanks for all the input.

i had my front wheels off the car today and i was looking at my UCA's. i have about 1-1/2 clearance between the arm and the inside of the rim. im still stumped on what you did to make it hit like that...baffling!

I had that issue on my 68 Charger
14x7 wheels were too wide for the stock drum brake spindles and the uca rubbed the rim
stripping off the wheel weights.
