When I get the GTX together, the trunk, as stock is abhorrent to me. We have a new Charger, and Challenger and I love the new trunks. They are carpeted, finished off nicely. I wonder if there is a kit made to drop into our B body trunk that covers the cavity between the rear fenders/qtr panel, and covers up the 'rawness' of this car?

I plan on using OZITE in the trunk of my Duster (since it's all messed up anyway)

Hum, Daredevil, good points, I figured you guys would know what I am speaking of, but, here's something to check out.

It just looks raw, crude, and 'cold' in the old trunk. I'd want to incorporate some killer sound system in the back, cover up those bare qtr panels, fill in the cavity where the trunk floor meets qtr panel (that's an infamous crud collection point). Cover up the steel wheel fenders...just want to make it more modern looking as much of the car will incorporate 'newness' like perhaps an Indy 440/Hemi engine based on the 5.7/6.1 block? Newer electronics, better seats, power windows, etc. This is long-range stuff, but, you got to plan/think about it or, it will be here and you will have no idea/direction to go.

were on the same line of thinking

Boyd Coddington shop interior guys would clean up the trunk area beautifullly. It just takes away space for a spare tire.

Spare tire? No way, couple cans of fix a flat! Or, one of those reject donut wheels. Thanks, good ideas...will proceed.

I agree the modern day trunks look nice, It's not to hard to get some carpet and do it yourself. Chrysler had it figured out by '76 as one of my aspens was fully carpeted and looked really nice.

I've used the black "fuzzy" carpet from Lowes (I think that's where I get it) in trunks a few times........It's EXTREMELY moldable, very thin skinned with a rubbery backer....Lots of pile so even on a sharp bend you don't notice any bare spots.......easy to work with, and glues down nicely to the inner fender wells and such......very forgiving too if you screw up a little on your edges.

Real nice looking when done.......not "indoor-outdoor" looking at all......has a soft look and feel.......great for consoles too when you need a black carpet.

For those who don't know, Ozite is the kinda fuzzy carpet looking stuff that is used to cover speaker cabinets with

I googled "how to custom auto upholstery" and "auto interiors" and found lots of books and how-to stuff. It doesnt look that hard once you've seen it done. Just gotta know the tricks of the trade.

I'm sure I don't understand. Why not buy a mini van, then? Paint the trunk, new trunk mat, then done. My AM doesn't work, so my tunes come from a 440 under the hood, and two tires in the back screaming. Maybe you have something else in mind.

I'm sure I'll get grief over this, but minivans are cool. I think everyone should own one. Having been in the car biz for a time (not now btw) I've bought several that were trade ins, drove them, then flipped them. They don't drive that badly (at least the Mopar ones) and have LOTS of uses.

But owning one of these isn't the same as a desire to "purdy up" the trunk of your old hot rod. In the case of my Duster, there's no way I'm stripping whatevertf was sprayed all over in the trunk, so I'm gonna do what I can to make it look nicer.

I would rather have a wagon, but thats just me

Yeah...been there, done that. Backs of the seats were covered in something the factory called (and I may spell this wrong) Vinoleum

tough stuff

i want to spray mine with that grey stuff with the spackles in it that looks like garage floor paint. dont know the name.

The B body has such a big trunk, the left and right and center front areas are perfect for enclosures, an amp, speakers not to mention the sound deadening effects the road has, rodent discouragement as they have no egress route as the qtrs are sealed up, plus, it looks a hell of a lot better!

I plan on doing this to my trunk at some point once we are in our new house. I also have a 2006 charger along with my 72 and totally understand what the OP is saying. I plan on making a compartment on both sides and carpeting the rest. I plan on putting the battery on one side and the nitrous tank on the other. Both completly hidden. You can do alot with any trunk as long as you have some creativity.
