I have a mirror that slaps me in the head when I launch. Not really, but you get the idea. It swings very freely when I accelerate/deccelerate/turn and it is really annoying- not to mention I can't see behind me. Anybody got info on a rebuild/repair kit or new ones for a '70 Net? I had it apart once and I think there is a spring and a ballbearing inside? Any ideas?
Thanks

I have a 68, and mine would swing all over the place. I think there was a bolt on the backside of the mirror that I tightened and that stopped it from moving around.

Allen bolt on back of mirror and If you take mirror down from roof there are three Philips screws that tighten the stem.

Okay, a little more info from me. I have attached a pic of the problem piece. I removed the 3 screws from the headliner. I removed the 3 little screws from the plate to expose the swival piece. This is where the problem lies. The round end just spins/rotates in the socket with no resistence. Has something worn out or fell out? I must have been mistaken with mentioning a ballbearing and spring in that area. My manual makes no note of this or I missed it. I can't tighten the 3 little screws any tighter to make it stop moving. The mirror is tight to the shaft with the single screw-that is not the problem.

The plate has probably just given a little over time. I'd try laying the plate on a flat surface like in your pic and tapping the ball socket with a hammer to give it a little more tension. tap it until it feels firm when you put it back on.

At least that's what I would try.

I'd give that pc. of metal you took off a couple taps with a hammer then bolt it back together.

You guys were right on! I gave the metal piece a few taps and added 8 folds of foil. It is tight as ever. Thanks!

Day-late-dollar-short on this one. Same problem on my RR, said F-it and got a glue-on base and mirror from a 95 Ram like mine. Ran the wires down the A-pillar and now have automatic night dimming too! I suppose you could find others with lights and temp displays. I tend to overdo things!

While we are on the subject. How do you re-tighten the driver side side view mirror ? I'd like to get that one to stop wobbling around.
