The transmission in my 68 roadrunner is painted blue. I thought the are supposed to be bare cast iron. My car is a lynch road car. You can still see the option code (048) painted above the ID pad. Is this correct? Or just correct for my car? :edgy:

Is the engine blue, also? Could be that at some point the motor and trans were pulled for a rebuild, etc and were both painted together.

Ha Ha. My car is at Restorations by Julius. I only have the rear axle, engine, trans, and front end at my house. I am trying to get them done by the time the rest of my car is ready. Thanks for the input.

I'm going to hazard a guess that the trans had been out of the car at one time or another. I can't ever recall seeing one painted from the factory....

That's funny because I painted my trans blue back in the 80's. I'm pretty sure I thought it was supposed to be blue based on a picture I saw somewhere. Maybe it was a factory display drive train in a MoPar book or something.

Is it the whole trans or just the bellhousing that is painted? I read somewhere (can't remember the source) that some plants painted the bellhousings with the block. I had a 78 Aspen w/the overdrive 4spd, and the bellhousing was painted on that car.

My 4 speed in the '73 is yellow. Its the numbers matching trans, I'm pretty sure it was painted yellow at one point, but I don't know why. I posted a couple of pics on dodge charger.com when I was replacing the seals/gaskets, and got a little ribbin' because of the yellow trans. I just left it that way since its a driver.

It was not painted that way from the factory so obviously someone AFTER it left the factory did it.
