Well, today as I was trailering a 70 runner IN THE RAIN  I got irritated trying to see out the windshield. Guess all our "daily drivers" get this layer of ?????? Lord knows what, that makes it hard for the wipers to wipe the windshield clean.

So the question is, What do you use to remove the scum from your windshield? Anyone heard of or use something called "Stoner's Invisible Glass"?

We're all listening

that stuff is awesome or really any proffesional glass company's glass cleaner i n a spray can works wonders .

Clean with Windex then put a coating of Rain-X and watch the rain water just bead off the windshield.

Windex doesn't seem to remove this quasi oily film, so I'm looking for something different

well I no your going to think I'm crazy but here goes take a clean cotton rag soak it with water squeeze most of the water out then get some cheap lacquer thinner and poor on the rag.squeeze enough to be good and damp wipe windows good and come right behind it with dry rag..this will take off any thing from paint over spray to road film. Artie

I agree that lacquer thinner will take practically anything off the windshield. I've also used Dirtex ammoniated spray cleaner. It works great, and doesn't streak. I bought it at ACE hardware.

:imho:...stoner's is the best available. spray it on, let it foam up a sec, and wipe it off. unless it REALLY scummy and dirty, it should take it off in one pass. It foams a lot, so you don't have to drench it. wipe off with scott's rags, or a heavy-duty p. towel, and you're golden!

i've never had good experiences with rain-x, it always looks so damn cloudy! some guys i've talked to swear by it tho. :edgy:

is there any sort of coating on the outside of the windshield on a 68? There are a few scuff type marks from a previous owners ice removal activities and some wiper blade marks. I'm going to try the thinner trick. Anyone know of a buffer or polish to take down scuff marks?

Use Mothers Clay Bar System it takes all the "schmutz" off of the wiendshield...Where I work we have a paint booth aswell as a Foundry dumping all kinds of stuff on our cars, the clay bar removes all of it off of the paint and the windows.

cieaning wind

I have or have had trouble cleaning the oily stuff off my windshield also,I have found a product in a spray can from Nason, bought at auto body supply shop, the #481-20,it is labled a glass cleaner,it is a solvent type cleaner,it works pretty well!!!

after i get my windows clean I just use car wax . just like waxing the paint !"wax-on wax-off" lol

I use wax and grease remover for paint quality finishing. This is the same stuff you use before painting. I get it in a gallon, soak a rag and go to work. After that I don't use windex or rain-x. Windex contains wax and will eventually haze up. Rain-x will eventually haze and may be hazy if you don't really buff it out.

For final clean, remember that the wiper carries dirt and needs to be cleaned too.

lemon juice concentrate. add a little in your reservoir and it cleans the lime build up in the nozzles too.

I hate cleaning widows

It depends what they look like...lol :rolling:

Glass shops/body shops use stronger glass cleaners than the consumer junk we get from the grocery store. They have a higher alcohol content which rips through the grease film that is causing you grief. Autobody shop supply stores are where you get it! The clay bar should work as well as the wax and grease remover...watch out for static electricity!!!

I just use simple green.
I use it also to clean my engine, tires, wheels, and carpet.
Great stuff, and won't have to worry about it messing up your paint or environment. I haven't found anything better for my white walls on my Road King.

4 ott steel wool, best window and chrome cleaner around. Thats all we used in our body shop. I still use it, makes the glass sparkle.
