Hey guys,
The chrome around all of the arm rest is pretty much flaked off and I'm thinking about painting them plum crazy purple like the exterior? Any thoughts? If i do that should i do more purple on the inside? My dad said since it's called plum crazy purple why not go crazy with it.

to each his on, if you like it go for it.

personally, I'm an originality freak, but I would condemn anybody for doing it "Their way"

to each his own.like frank sanatra sang "he did it his way"

Thanks, I understand. As anyone seen anyone do something like this? I can't decide since i never saw it with chrome. If i got more extreme it would probably look more like a pro touring car? Can you buy new ones of these online or are they one of those things that you have to hunt down in a junkyard?

They're available from lots of sources including Mr.G's who do lots of plastic rechroming

i personally dont have mine painted yet still doing bodywork but that being said i do plan on painting mine hemi orange (same that the exterior will be) along with the a few other parts to bring a little color into my otherwise solid black interior but that may be a while before i get that far working on the car a few hours here and there does add up but takes forever

Thanks guys i'll have to check those out.

Cool, thats what i was thinking because right now everything is black... Although it looks good i though alittle color would look cool too. I was thinking of dying the seat belts (faded blue at the moment) and whatever else i decide. But idk if it will look funny or not.

if your going to die the belts just dont bleach them first ya your color may look better but i think bleach will weaken the tensil strength

Thanks, Good to know!
My dad mentioned dying it but do you use any normal dye?

to be honest im not sure if regular cloth die will work or not due to the nylon like material that they are made of worst case senerio go to your local junkyard find a car with light colored belts get one and try dyeing that one before you attempt on ones you need

You can also swap sides, put the left on the right and vice versa,(of course after seperating it from the armrest) this turns them upside down and the better chrome of the bottom winds up on top, cool little trick an old timer showed me.

Oh thats true... I almost though just buy new ones that were purple but man they're more expensive then i had thought.
Cool, I'll have to go out there and see if they are.
Thanks Seth

Ok this is really annoying me. I bought chrome spray paint and i spent like 15+ minutes on each of the plastic armrest sanding them with steal wool and 2000grid sandpaper making sure to make them perfect before i sprayed them but after 6 coats i still have spots that the paint isn't sticking and they look like it was raining while i sprayed them... Btw i tried plum crazy purple on one it actually stuck! but it wasn't the look i was hoping for... Any ideas? My dad tried some rubbing chemical on one to make sure nothing was on it but it came out the same as the others...

ya use primer first your chrome will stick then but i have had very poor luck with chrome spray paint. whatever you do dont spray clear over the chrome rattle can paint it will make it look kinda like aluminum alloy rims

Instead of that chrome paint how about wheel paint. VHT makes an aluminum and a GM rally silver wheel paint that is shiny silver in color. Not reflective chrome..but would be clean looking

Thanks guys I guess I'll sand them down again and spray some primer if not I'll look for that wheel paint,

you should try scrubbing them down with Dawn dish liquid and rinse and let dry thoroughly before painting or priming , the stuff works GREAT !
