Hey guys,
I have a question about the traction bars on my car. There is only about 2-3" clearance below them and I'm not sure if that's how they're suppose to be or if they were put on wrong? I though maybe sliding them back a few inches would help?

Here's some pictures.
Thanks,

That looks right to me. Might be a tad long for your car but maybe not. (Its been awhile) They always hung low, remember scraping speed bumps when speed bumps first came out.:rolling:

Cool, Thanks!
Yeah first time i pulled in our driveway i found out lol

Here are a few pic's of mine before I took the car all apart for resto..........

One thing you should look at is the tire to "L" shaped mounting bracket, the sharp corners will rub on hard cornering/low tire pressure.Wouldn't be a bad idea to round them down. I found a nice cut mark all the way around one of my tires when pulling the car apart.

Just looking at my first pic now, you can see the gouge mark in the tire....See the date on the pic 04/17/2008 the gouge can be seen starting at the top left of the 04/ and goes all the way around the tire.

Traction bars don't work on Mopars. Unlike fords and Chevys they have a shorter front spring segment. The others have the rear end "centered" in the spring. Ditch those things and get a pinion snubber

I totally agree.

I should have added....IF the traction bars are actually doing some good, then you have issues that should be addressed

Loose the slapper bars they are useless and will bind the leafs. If you are having traction problems it may be time to upgrade. Use can use the DC SS-springs with a snubber for the rear but you also need to tweak the front for the car to work correctly. A newer setup is a the mono leaf with a Cal-trac bars or the Comp Eng. bars. Depending on what your looking to do with the car will help you pick a system. All of the setups mentioned are for a Stocker type setup. you can always go with a 4-link but you in for a lot of work and cost. You can find a lot of info that will help on the net. Good Luck

I also agree. But I was a teenager once too and didn't know any better, so one of my cars had a set for a couple of years.

Another thing that a lot of people don't think to check is whether the traction bar will hit the pavement if you get a flat tire on the rear. If that happens while going down the road, you could be in for a wild ride.

For a slapper bar to be truly functional, the snubber needs to hit the spring eye. All to often I used to see leafs bent just behind the spring eye by the snubber on the traction bar. Well, at least back in the day when folks used to use them.....

For 99% of us either the Hemi or the super stock springs with a factory snubber will do the job, and I am speaking of 600 h.p. cars. Caltracs are an unnecessary expense and take that much more away from the originality of the car. They don't allow anything more than The Hemi suspension and snubber for the NHRA stock class my car runs in and the Nat. record for that class is around 10.70. So if you think your street car needs anything else then you have a seriously fast street car.

Thanks guys,
I guess I'll have to take them off soon. Great... wasted time polishing them up earlier LOL
Btw when i bought the car 3 weeks ago they came on it.

Oh sure, now you're blaming them on someone else....:rolling:
