Well I first want to say that I take my cars seriously. Here's why. As we all know it starts with Carlisle being Mopar-mecca. I have always wanted to go but this is the year when my family and I could have made it, possibly still can. Anyhow this brings in a totally different story involving two young girls and a rental car. The straight and skinny is that we were going to rent a Charger from Enterprise. Another thing you may know is that the girls who sadly lost their lives from someone else's SHEAR laziness had an effect on my parents and I'm sure most of you, and have lost some if not all respect for aforementioned rental company because of their actions in the related story. This probably caused the cancellation of a few rentals here or there but nothing too big:clapsarcastic:and we were one of those. "Anyhoo" we decide to load up the ole E-150 (Ford) with our cooler and the essentials for a trip. As my father and I are driving to get some gas he tells me its time to change to oil. So we go get a gallon of Valvoline and a MotorCraft filter. I change it and I pull the dipstick, wipe it and stick it in again, pull it out and read it. ITS DRY AS A BONE!! The car gets cranked and I check it again, it is fine now. I wrap up and get ready to go back inside when I go to shut off the light I see a pool of liquid under the engine. ITS OIL! :black_eye: There goes my 20 minutes under the van on the driveway. I check it out and there is oil on the engine, the suspension, the trans, the exhaust and well... in wasn't where it should have been.

Do not take it the wrong way, I'm not stupid, not lazy, the drain plug was tight, the oil filter was tight and not crossthreaded. This is the first time it has ever happened and this was the 5th time I have changed to oil at home.:edgy: Either it's possessed and hates Mopars or long trips or even valvoline, I was running it on Royal purple and their filters and it had no problems. It's a '98 but in excellent shape. it has 138630 miles and atleast 3500 were to get mopar parts. any ideas guys? Thanks for any input, it would be much appreciated.

it's possible that the rubber gasket from the old filter was left stuck and when you put the new filter on the gaskets were stacked, that would create an enormous leak, like you mentioned, tightening it will only make it worse, I've been a mechanic for about 30 years now and have seen this happen 3 or 4 times over the years,or it could have the wrong filter and the sealing area could be overhanging not making a tight enough seal.
my guess would be filter related.

Gotta second that. When I worked running dynos for GM,we had the old ring stick to the filter base numerous times. Nothing like firing up a new mill in a clean dyno room, and having oil spray everywhere. A couple of the mechanics got embarrassed by this, including yours truly. Didn't happen twice.

I had a chunk of flex plate snap off and stick in the back side of my oil filter, it made a hell of a mess and smoked like crazy,we thought the motor had blown lol

Yeah, it was that you are right, got it resolved and went to Carlisle without any further problems.

Well the fault was still partially mine because I was doing a night job.
I got a new gallon of oil and the Ford small block ran like a champ without oil leaks. Just had to deal with the blue smoke from the oil buring off the exhaust pipes. Well:black_eye: It's a learning experience.
