OK...so I finally got the radiator replaced in my truck and all seemed to be right with the world. So yesterday after sitting and running for about 15 minutes, the gauge was showing it was hot. Apparently replacing the leaking radiator allowed the next weak link to pop up.

So now the question is, how much crap is in the way of the water pump? Looks kinda like a big block arrangement rather than a traditional small block.

Any advice???????????????????????????????????????????

Is this your Ram? Not as bad as it looks. You know what you are doing. I had a WP go in my 5.2, it was chewing up the back of the housing. It gave NO symptoms! Just started getting hot one day. Very true about the "no good deed"!

Yup. It's on the RAM. Looking at pics of the pump it is similar to a BB pump in that it has no hose connections on it. I was just curious if there was a whole bunch of crap that is in the way (haven't had the time to look closely yet). Only took me about 1.45 to replace the radiator, so I guess I'm hoping the WP (if that's the problem) will be as easy.

I just did this on my 5.9.

Had to unbolt and move (but not disconnect) the alt and a/c comp. swung the big bracket that holds thme over to the pass side. be careful of the alt connection, almost broke mine. Do have to disconnect elect from a/c.

After you get that out of the way it's pretty straight forward. Starts to look much more like "LA".

Need a spanner wrench for fan clutch. Also mind that the oe and replacement used a different size. My Brother had an adjustable one.

If you have the side tank rad, mind the top hose connection at the neck, bent mine up too far and it leaked for a day, but miraculously stopped.

Replaced bottom hose and bypass hose but left top since it was $70.

Shouldn't admit, but got serp belt on wrong..easier to do than you might think.

My replacement pump did not come with heater hose tube. Was royal pain to get original out of bad pump. Did come with O ring, though.

Couple of bolts on pump go into H2O jackets in block.

I don't think it's anything like a 5.9

Oh, just saw your sig.....4.7. Sorry.

UPDATE

Well.....turns out it wasn't the water pump after all. Finally got the chance to put the tester back on it and shimmy up underneath. Did you know the thermostat is on the BOTTOM of a 4.7? I didn't. And contrary to all we're used to, the water flows into the bottom of the radiator and then out the top.

who'da thunkit?

Anyway, turns out the seal on the original t-stat was no longer sealing. So a trip to 1, 2, 3, 4 different parts stores finally netted me a stat that didn't look like it was made from a Pepsi can.

So far....all is well....................again

That's CRAZY.

Nice to know.

Glad you got it back right.
