Was woundering if someone could help me decode a fender tag or what would be the best place to get help? second line down 115 052 670 bottom line is 86 D32 then the vin second line up from bottom is FJ5 P TX9 B3 U9742 Third line up from bottom is V19 V83 not much else is readable.

so your tag looks like:

0A******
115 052 670
V19 V83
FJ5 P? TX9 B3 U9742
E86 D32 *******

that right?

The second line: since build dates were
9-September
A-October
B-November
C-December and since there are only 30 days in November then you car was built on November 30th of 1969. Also FJ5 is not compatible with a UDF color of P it may have been X9 check it again.

Assuming that your car is a Superbird, I would expect that it might be something like this:

<Missing Line?> (5 digits, a space, 6 digits... for example, "15151 173484")
115 052 670
<Missing Line?> (for example, "26 C16")
V19 V88
FJ5 P___ TX9 B30 J9742_ ("J" needs one more digit, series started at J97000)
E86 D32 RM23 U0A XXXXXX

Trim code might be P6XA on second line up...?

Here is a start on decoding...

E86 - 440 4BBL Super Commando (Magnum) engine
D32 - 727 Automatic transmission
FJ5 - Limelight Green Hi-Impact exterior color
P6XA - Premium Charcoal & Black Vinyl Bucket Front Seats (If that's the code)
TX9 - Black Upper Door Frame paint
B30 - Scheduled Production Date, November 30, 1969 (Phony on Superbirds)
J9742_ - "J" Number issued to Superbirds, missing last digit
V19 - Special Order vinyl top (black on Superbird)
V88 - Delete transverse stripe (Superbird & other Aero cars)

I did remove the tag and look at it from the back no help there. I don't have a flat bed scanner. The broadcast sheet is gone as well. Is there any other way to find out what was on the tag? Or how else would I decode what the car is/was? Thanks

No, without more information from you, there is absolutely no way to help you. A friend or neighbor must have a scanner or digital camera that can take a few pictures of both sides of the fender tag. Also, feedback on the first attempts we are making at "guessing" what you are seeing would be a great help...

For example:

1) Is the fender tag from a car known or thought to be a Superbird?
2) Does it have "V88" or is it clearly not that ("V83" is not a known code)
3) Are there any remnants after the "P" on the second from bottom line that indicate it might be "P6XA"?
4) Could the "U9742" you gave be "J9742?", and any indication what the missing digit might be?
5) Any sign of a partial digit after "B3"?
6) Any sign of the two missing lines?

Etc.........

We need more to go on...!

Well if there is no build sheet and no ledgible writing on the fender tag, find out what a basic car consist of and then see if yo can find options on your car from there. Cross reference it with the fender tag and see if that helps to further determine anything on the tag.

This is assuming the car is still relatively in one piece and mostly complete

I can take a digital picture of it on both sides and post it. From what I can tell it does have the correct interior-engine-trans-vinyl roof -exterior color.I will post pic's of the tag tomorrow. Thanks

Have a talk with Galen, see it he could help you out with the predicament at hand.
