Hey guys,
A. Is there any easy way for me to know the gear ratio in the rear end of my '79 XE? VIN maybe? Or would it be marked somewhere on the pumpkin?
B. I bought a '78 also which is pictured in a recent thread about race car projects. I didn't care if it was XE or GT but its confusing. It's got the XE emblems on the fenders, but it has the stainless dash face and flares around the wheels. It also has t-tops but that doesn't mean anything necessarily. The man I bought it from said it was GT and someone on EBay said it looked like it to him as well. The final bit of info is that when I checked the VIN on vin wizard, it comes up XE. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Should be a small metal tag on one of the diff cover bolts that will I.D. the gear ratio, it is smaller than a postage stamp so look closely

Thanks for the info! Going to crawl under now to look at dif! What's a fender tag? Where would I find it?

It should look something like this:

The Fender tag or Data plate is located under
the hood on top of the drivers inner fender.
This tag is from a Magnum GT - (Code A75)

Yep! Looks like its headed to Colorado. On another note, I just replaced the headlight cover motor with a rebuilt one and they still won't open. I'm glad I got the practice, but I'm gonna feel pretty stupid if there's a fuse for this! Is there?
Thanks!

Here's my '79!

Thats a nice looking ride man! I would look for any fuses that are blown, you may get lucky.. And check around the axle tubes on your differential, you may find a band wrapped on it with some info on your rear end, Admitting im guessing but ive seen bands with info on different cars differential before, so it may be worth a look.. Good luck.

Here you go, hope this helps a little? I don't see the headlight motor
but I would think it should be a 20 Amp or bigger. My guess, #5 ?
