I just bought a 62 plymouth in the denver area. trying to drive it back to northern indiana, but when i stopped for gas it won't restart. i believe it to be vapor lock. but the problem is i have very few tools and need some help in that dept. a jack would be nice too. anyone in that area care to help a mopar nut out.

posted by charlie's brother. also a mopar nut, but still in indiana and of not much help from here.

ok it's not vapor lock. getting gas to the carb. going to pull fuel bowl off and check for debris. Charlie says he is a suburb called westminster or something like that. he may need a place to store it for a week.

ie there any hesitation when you're turning over the engine?did a plug wire pop loose when you stopped?

The car has a 225 /6 with a 1 barrel Holley, car ran ok (just a hesitation when taking off) on test drive and the 1 mile to the gas station. Started after getting gas but died when put into gear, will run when shot with starting fluid and then dies again. Took float bowl off and it is full of debris, cleaned it out but it is no better. Tried to find a new carb but its special order and the part store within walking distance didn't have a rebuild kit nor do I have many tools, but people were helpful. Help is on the way now from Indiana to rescue me and the big black paper weight.:angryfire:

Did both of those and it made no difference. Even ran some new rubber gas line as a quick fix just in case there was a line issue. The carb is getting gas but it doesn't squirt gas.

Carburetor operation and repair manuals and links to training movies and carb repair/modification threads are posted here for free download. Svigel Auto Parts is the go-to place for old car parts in Denver. It's on Santa Fe Blvd, 303-781-7859; they may have a new carburetor for you. Either a Holley 1920 or a Carter BBS will work, as long as it has the correct box-shaped throttle lever to accept the rotating-rod throttle control on your '62. If you strike out at Svigel's, send me a PM; I have a new (not "remanufactured") carburetor for your '62 sitting on my desk (in Seattle) as I type this and I could zap it out to you as soon as the post office opens on Tuesday AM.

Might try Tony at MoPower Masters. 303-294-9898. he's closed on Sun and Monday but might get back to you and he is on the north side not far from you.
Also Phil at Rocky Mt. Connection. 303-452-4709. Also not far from you.
These are both Mopar guys. These are thier business numbers.

Come to think of it, call Bob Schwartz, 303-779-1865. Bigtime slant-6 freak who will almost certainly have whatever part(s) you need to get your '62 up and running. Tell him Dan Stern sent you.

Thanks for the help but I have a trailer almost here. Even with this carb issue I do like the car

Yep, of course, but the only carb manuals posted there that could be applicable to a V8 are Carter BBD and Holley 2280.
