I put a chrome thermostat body on my 318 poly and no mater what I do It leaks at the gasket.I`m thinking of putting the origonal back on.Anyone have a problem like this?

I use PERMATEX 81724 ULTRA BLUE No Leak. I let it set up for a while before assembling part...also seal bolts, check housing with a straight edge.....

I used one on my ole crate 360 engine... leaked... I ended up sanding the chrome off the bottom with a piece of sand paper layed on the concrete... the housing itself was warped because it only started taking material off the ends... So I sanded until it was smooth and put it back on with a new gasket and some copper gasket maker... never had a problem after that.

The base is probably warped, try sanding out untill its even. That should fix your problem.

I had the same problem,i made my own gasket from gasket maker that seem to be a little thicker, and some black gasket glue ,and no more leaks.

X-2 I made another gasket out of a cereal box and used the black old gooey gasket sealer (Permatex) on it and that stopped it, ive heard of a lot of the chrome ones leaking, This worked good for me for the last two years anyway.

Same deal here, bought one for my Chevelle and it leaked no matter what I did until I finally power sanded the bottom flat, after that it was fine.

Had one on my HEMI, leaked no matter what. Filed it flat, it was good for a season. Then the next year warped again.... went back to my leftove piece from my 440

update , I used permatex one minute gasket in the can and I sanded the body to even it out and so far it is not leaking. Thanks for all the good info guys.

I tossed the Chinese chrome for an (overpriced) Mancini billet housing. No leaks ever after that. Save the chrome for the Chebby guys.
