Hi everyone. Well after adjusting the floats again. The car is still dribbling gas in the primary's. Somebody said check the fuel pressure and that it may be pushing high pressure out but did not want to hack my fuel lines up. It is one up on the stock cam. I was thinking of a holly 750 but dont know if I want a duel feed fuel line. Another guy said a speed demon. Whats another $500. YOUR INPUT ON CARB SELECTION PLEASE.

The best advise i could offer is get in contact with 4secondsflat.com. go to their website and you will find links to contact them. Eitherlive chat or send a message to their tech email. They will be able to recommend what will work best. Have. As much info about the car as you can. They will need to know specifics.
Sorry we couldn't get what you have to work, but i feel you will be happier with the performance of a holley style carb. I personally like the look of them compared to the carter carbs too.
So see what they have to say and good luck. Just keep telling yourself you own a 68 GTX. If that don't make you smile i don't know what will.

what kind of fuel pump u run?

Hello. Just a stock fuel pump, but my buddy at work said he ran into this fuel run-over problem with his carter carb. and he checked his fuel pressure on his stock pump and it was pushing 15 p.s.i. I really wanted to keep my car kinda stock and not have to change all my throttle linkage when I get a new carb. Have the stock air cleaner on there now and wanted to keep it this way.

What is your fuel setup now...carb etc...

I really have a stock set up. The cam is a lunati cam. I think it has a 486 lift which is really not a big lift for a big block ( dont quote me on that). I do know it is one up from the stock cam from the factory. It is the carter 625 cfm ( afb ) carb ( the one I am having the trouble with ) . Everything else is stock. No roller parts

Did you check the floats in the carb to see if they are filling up with gas?
Did you check to see if their is a crack in the carb base? The easiest friendliest carb for a street car mild performance is a Holley 650 vacuum secondaries or the base line Edelbrock. But check the carb closely and see if you have a leaking float. The single feed is fine, but look for the basics first.

its possible that the needle and seat are leaking because of trash in it. is it hard to start after u cut it off?

Rebuild kits are nice, but the base plate needs to be checked for warps, cracks and worn shafts. Then you have to bush the plate shafts. Nothing lasts for ever.

i understand ur frustrated but if u go to another carb, u might like the holley 600 single feed vaccum secondary, it will let u use the original linkage with the chrysler adapter lever holley offers. great carb if it just a cruiser but not a race style combo. just thought u might try that

This carb was just rebuilt with a new kit,but have always had problems with this carb ( thats why I rebuilt it ) Thanks for the carb. buying ideas.

Your buddy is right. Put a fuel pressure regulator in it, adjust it to 5psi, put in an off road (spring loaded) needle and seat and your problems will go away.

Don't remove carb from engine..try removing the top af the carb and filling the fuel bowl to verify gas leaking past the needle/seat. Then check your float level & float for cracks.again... Not always recommended, but ..Some seats needed a little epoxy when threaded into the body to stop fuel from leaking past the threads.

from article....The first step is to clean the float and inspect it for obvious damage. Small dings and dents are quite common, even in unused floats, and occurred when the manufacturer shipped the floats in bulk. Major dents (generally caused by water freezing in the carburetor) are not generally repairable. If one can hear liquid sloshing around inside the float, skip to the next paragraph. If the float looks to be reasonably damage-free, it should be tested. Testing is accomplished by grasping the float arm with a pair of needle-nose pliers, and submerging the float in very hot water. The hot water will pressurize the air inside the float, and a leaky float will blow a stream of bubbles.

Well I new to this but, I have a holley 670 street avenger carb on my 70RR 383 and it is a fairly easy tunnable carb with vacum secondaries. I like it alot and I still have my stock linkage hooked up to it. Just thought I would add my advice.

My 440 came with edelbrock 650, and it ran beautifully, but it didnt make a whole lot of power, I am now running and 750 - 3310 Holley and its harder to tune, doesnt run quite as smoothly but makes more power.

625 Carter is not big enough to feed a 440. I would go with the 750 CFM non-emissions carb. or the 800 Thunder series. Carters do not like over 5 PSI fuel pressure. Bite the bullet and install a fuel pressure regulator and gauge in an inconspicous spot so you can adjust and regulate the fuel pressure. As a charter member of the "I hate Holley Carbs. on Street engines" club I have used this set-up for over 30 years on various Carter carbed combinations and it has been fool proof.

Will look into current carb. but bought a new carb. It was a tough decision, but after talking to the guys at the 4secondsflat.com. I went with the edelbrock 750 cfm. It is a carb that lets me keep almost everything I have ( linkage, stock air cleaner, same fuel inlet ). You guys are correct. I will install the regulator with the gauge. Thanks everyone

You did it right, good decision. Should make you real happy!

Well I guess I was wrong with the booster thing ( eliminated BOOSTER and still runs like crap but will make it in gear. ( going after the tranny tomorrow BY UNHOOKING DRIVE SHAFT AND SEES IF SHE SPINS SOMEWHAT EASY. T.C.I thinks I have a tight tranny).Hi Guys. bolted on the new carb
