I'm going against the grain here but....360. The 360 will mate up to your current trans and be pretty much a bolt in. Get a 360 to 904 flexplate (B&M makes it) and roll with it. Since you already have a small block, many of the items will carry over- if you happen to need anything. The small blocks make for a nice cruising ride.
It's all subjective but I always run across small block stuff :sideways tongue:

You can always stroke it to a 408..then say "it's just a 318!!". :headbang:

Better handling car with a small block...

I also voted for the big block but I must say I realy like sweet5ltr`s idea!

I do not mean to jack this thread but sweet5ltr i have questions on the 408 stroker could you pm me

I would go 360 also, but that is based on what I believe is "budget". It already runs, will just about bolt in with all the 318 parts... That's budget for you.

Nosser- or you could pay me& the wife back out to THE land one more time and I'll help you decide. Went there in 2004 and loved it. Seriously,440 is the way to go,but I kinda lean towards 318 and build up your funds. Could take a while, but the sunshine is always there and you'll be smiling the whole time.

LOL.... I wish I had the funds to do that, where did you visit when you were out here?

be patient and do the 440 as it is more desireable than the 318 or skanky 360...360 was not available to the car, as the 440 but Your resale will increase with a 4 speed...and what fun would You have with a 318 4 speed....lol

That's because rather than try and make the decision yourself, you're asking 100 different people. You're gonna get 100 different answers everytime.

Here's what you need to do. No one can make the ultimate decision but you. You need to assess your situation. What you can afford. What your abilities are. How much time you can spend on a project. Nobody else knows those things except one person. You. If you jump into a project without planning around all that, you're setting yourself up for one big FAIL.

Is budget a factor? If so, the smartest fiscal decision is probably the 360. Sounds like that's almost a drop in. You could drive it a while, save your money up and make plans for a 440 later on.

Got money to spend? Then the 440 may be for you. Just know that without proper planning going either route will not be very successful. That's my 2 cents and that's probably more than it's worth.

Again, no replacement for displacement. 440 Big blocks made reliable HP for cheap and if your like me the Mo Power the better.

Simple IMO. You have a running 318 in it now. Leave it & drive it. Take your limited funds and work on the 440 & 4 spd. When it's done then swap it in. If need be sell the 360 for extra funds.
