has anyone had anything dome with the Chrome FX? i have been looking at the ALSA Chrome FX. they use it on plastic parts (bike helmets) or metal. it looks great. they even make a small do-it yourself kit. it is not just silver paint, it uses Silver Nitrate, so it is like a flash plating sort of.

I've had very good results with KemKhrome that I ordered from The Coating Store on ebay. Very reflective.

A guy i know tryed it here in Canada ,and he is an excelent painter ,it didnt work out for him, just couldnt get it right.I think it is the same stuff ,maybe they have improved it

That 3 gun process looks like the same process West Coast Customs used on the "TRON" car build, looked super awesome and they had like 4 guys spraying VERY FAST!!!! Turned out awesome!! The ALSA corp stuff is paint applied over a black base, wiped down after application, then cleared. Whereas this other 2 gun almost waterlike product yields a better result!!!

I have some Kosmic Krome from HOK and it was a very fussy procedure with disappointing results. I have some fibreglass bumpers that I would like to do up.

That is obviously an electrostatic application, looks cool!

Has anyone here tried? What are the costs?

One of the guys in our AFX group used it on his fiberglass bumpers. It was time consuming according to him, and it took two tries to get it the way he wanted . ALSA has a new product out that has the material already installed onto 3M vinyl wrap. This would be a much easier approach to someone like myself that is not painter- savvy. It appears to stretch around contoured surfaces...

Jay leno's garage has a spray chrome video posted on there,,,i watched it last year,,,,interesting.

Yeah I am interested in this too..Does it really work like in the vids? Seems awesome if it does!

I have used this process and am very satisfied . Did the plastic chrome on the instrument panel and dash bezels.
Some tips:
--- be knowledgeable on the system your vendor uses..
---If they do all the work, it will seem expensive.
---first, they clean the part, then use a bondo like product to smooth out dings and scratches. They then prime the part and fine sand it so it is smooth. Then the process of painting with a shiney black paint for a base. Then the "spray chrome"using two chemicals mixed together. then a rinse. BTWE they may put the part in a warming oven to be sure it is completly dry before the spray chrome. Then a coat of .Urathane clear for protection.

So you can see there is time involved and that costs money. Find out what it costs to have them do the whole process. That should be substantualy less than what it would cost if it were metal and chrome plated. See if you can bargain the price by prepping and priming yourself . Also, it will cost more to have them detail with something like argent silver paint ..............
I am going to have some more of it done...............................MO
