Damn. 67 R/T, went to leave garage tonight, metallic clang sound, suddenly no reverse. Car moves forward in drive or manual 1st gear. Haven't driven beyond that. Fluid new and clear, trans worked well until this. Thoughts plz? Thanks.

I bought a Dart a few years back with that problem. I pulled the pan and the flat piece of steel that went from the band to the servo was in the pan. Turns out the bracket welded to the band had broken loose and that flat piece had fallen out. Pulled the trans, replaced the band and i was back in business.

Had a 727 in a 65 Belvedere strip only car. After about 40 to 45 low 12 second runs, wouldn't get reverse anymore. And could barely get it onto the trailer. It was the low/reverse band was wore out. Replaced the bands and clutch friction discs, and it worked great after that. Also replaced sealing rings, and oil seals. These transmissions will take alot of hard usage before needing a re build.

This would be a rear band problem, either the band broke, the servo piston broke or the strut came out between the servo lever and band. The strut or servo can be replaced with the trans in the vehicle, the band will require transmission removal and disassembly. Hope yours is an easy fix, pan removal should tell you what you are looking for.

Yup. Lever hanging, strut in pan. Hope the band is ok, trans rebuild is in the cards, just not quite yet. Thanks guys.

Well, low/reverse band broken, so out it comes. Hughes kit, 2500 stall converter, TransGo TF2. Anyone got any extra cash laying around?

Your old friend Sixer, a hell of a guy
