I sprayed my engine compartment with bc/cc and it's not the color shade I was looking for.... close but not correct. Do I scuff the clear coat and reprime or can I scuff the clear and spray the base on top of the clear? As I mentioned the color is close but not what I'm after. What grit should I use?

Re-scuff with 5-600 to knock down the orange peel, clean with a mild wax and grease remover and re-spray. Try to avoid sanding through on the edges. Paint is thinnest at those points. If you burn through to metal, etch then spot prime those areas. If you sand through to base coat, you can simply rebase and clear over, but you risk shrinking/swelling in those areas. Safest to spot prime those areas too.

Paint adheres best directly to paint... No problem!
