i just got back from a 4 day road trip from phoenix to colorado to pick up a matching numbers 1971 340 4 speed road runner
trying to find out the value and a little back ground
i know they only made about 483 of this combo that year
trying to decide witch way to go i would like to big block it and fix it up the way i want it, but dont want to harm the value if its worth alot
any ideas would be great

Nice car and welcome
Well #rs matching is allways worth more in that case...but if you just want to have fun throw in that BB 440 and keep the other engine on the side(rebuilt or not) for resale*
This is a great site for advice as well as http://www.roadrunnernest.com/

Welcome. It's pretty uncommon to find number's matching cars these days, so I'd consider putting it back. But if you just don't wanna, then put the 340 in the corner and drop a big block in.

welcome

i have # matching 71 roadrunner , i ordered the car new with all i wanted . the 340 4 speed is just down wright fast , there was not alot that could keep up with it , the car was just down wright bad on the street . i had a nice 67 440 gtx for a work car that just could not keep up . i have had a lot cars in my time and my 71 340 is still one of the best . ps its coming out very soon . with in about 6 weeks

the combo you have is great. if you want to preserve the 340 set it aside for later and think about a 408 stroker all the horse power and less weight. plus its a strait bolt in

nothing wrong with 340

Welcome. If it was my car, I would stay with the 340. I find it interesting that the 340 wasn't on the sales brochure for 71, but you could still get it. (just my 2 cents)

welcome to FBBO, on #13 68-71 RR's, to say the least, I love RR's, never had a 340 small bock version, maybe some day...

Guys, this thread is from 2010, and the dude only has 2 posts. Just saying

So....two years old, only two posts. Ah well, it beats the billions of people who have no posts at all over here in the past two years. :)

Long time since ive pulled that one lol.

What do say 71Bird, let's make it three posts - Show us some pictures of your car (even if you still do not have it).

And by the way, a belated:

Welcome to FBBO!
