For those of you that have read here on the site my postings you likely know I was looking for a 1966 Charger and thought you might like to see some pictures of it but the photos won't load because they are too big. New photo program and I don't know how to re-size them. If you want to see them PM me for an email addess.

1966 DODGE CHARGER V.I.N.XP29G61195242
I bought this car in 5/8/12 in BC Canada
The car was purchased new per info in the owners service certificate and warranty policy by Boris Reutcky at Century motors Ltd. in Winnipg 1, Manitoba Canada. I found an internet obituary listing and learned of the original owners passing in 2010. At this time I am still trying to locate family members that may be able to tell me more about this car.
The delivery date in this book is August 17, 1966 which means the warranty did not go into service until this date. The obituary says that the original owner was in auto sales so I am GUESSING that since he ordered it new and with a Nov. 20 1965 scheduled production date that he drove it on a dealer plate for nearly a year before actually titling the car.
The car is a well equipped with what appear to be all options except A/C.
383-4
Console auto trans
Power steering
Power brakes
Power windows
Bumper guards front and rear
Remote driver’s side mirror
Passenger side mirror
Light package
AM radio
Insulation package
Clock, console mounted
day/nite mirror
Emergency flashers
retractable seat belts
Tinted glass
Parking brake warning light
Full spinner wheel covers
I also believe it had whitewall tires
The car was originally medium turquoise metallic (but has since been repainted black cherry) with white interior.
The car had 79K mile on it when I purchased it and from the condition I believe it to be actual.
It has the original fender tag but I have yet to do a search for the original broadcast sheet. The front seats have been recovered with original type upholstery so it may already be gone if it ever existed in the first place.
It has the original engine trans and rear end.
I have not checked the rear end for Sure grip or ratio but I have plans to replace the entire drivetrain so it makes little difference to me.

Now for those that are interested here is the story on the purchase and trip to get the car. It IS a saga.

I found the car in an ended Ebay auction that the car was sold on but the buyer never completed the purchase.
I have a 5 page pre-purchase checklist that I went over in detail with the seller and emphasized things like dash lights, headlight motors, tach, etc. which are common problem areas for a 1st gen. Charger and expensive to repair. Seller said all of these things worked, well they didn’t but more on this later. This is the chance that you take when you buy a car long distance without inspecting it first. You have to weigh the cost of time and money to make a pre-inspection trip against what your gut feeling is about the integrity of the seller in his honesty of describing the car.
This car was in Canada in a remote area near the Washington state border. I looked at every possibility for transport and one-way trip to get there and the most economical was to take the dreaded two day bus trip that turned into 3 days with delays and an additional $220. cab ride. I arrived at a small Washington town just south of the border to a storage unit that the seller had transported the car to so I did not have to deal with the border crossing situation. I finally arrived at 9 PM on Sat. evening. The car was sitting with the hood opened and the battery cable disconnected. I wanted to check the fluids before starting it but it was too dark in the storage unit to do so I decided to drive it to a lighted gas station. The car fires right up and sound and runs great however when I turn the lights on the dash lights don’t work. I got to the gas station only to find there was no inside hood release to be found. The handle and cable all missing. I get on my back on the ground and look up under the car and can see the hood latch release and figure I can reach it with the jack handle. I go to the trunk and find that the complete jack that the guy told me it has is has no handle. Now I am worried about what else this guy has lied about. I check the spare and although a new tire it is flat.
Could not drive at night without dash lights so I had to stay in the only available flea-bag room in this small town hotel. Left at day break Sun. without being able to check fluids and drove through a lot of small towns with no real store to find anything that could work for opening the hood. Finally stopped for gas next to a motor home and asked the driver if he had anything that might work and he came up with a stiff camping type hotdog fork. It worked so I offered him $10. which he of course agreed to, reached in my pocket and the smallest I had was a twenty so now I am the proud owner of the highest priced hotdog fork on the planet. All was well under the hood. That evening I go to rotate the headlights up and the passenger side won’t come up. I get to looking around and find a scotch tape dispenser lodged between the headlight bucket and a bracket with the motor still trying to turn and now it doesn’t work so I guess it burned it up.
Now the good news is that this car drives beautifully. Not a rattle, no air leaks, quite, and so smooth at freeway speeds a Big Gulp rides on the center console arm rest without moving. It ran 1650 miles in 25 hours flawlessly.
Overall I am happy with the car but what kind of a guy sells you a car KNOWING that you are going make a trip like that with no dash lights, no jack handle, a flat spare and no way to get under the hood?

If your photo's are too large to post, e-mail them to yourself
They will be resized

Or post them to Image Shack or Photobucket, and they'll be automatically resized there.

Can't wait to see the pictures and taging to read about it later.

Quite a story. My buddy and I once looked at a car and tried to have the owner meet us half way and he wouldn't do it. Since we were already in LA for the sole purpose to see this car, the half way point was not unreasonable - maybe an hour. He knew that if my buddy liked it we would be making a deal and hit the road for the 350 mile trip back home. We even asked if the car would make the trip and the seller said yes. So why was it when we got to the guys house and took the car for a test drive it wasn't 20 feet that I noticed a bad axle bearing!!?? And when I say bad a deaf man could hear the rumble. Needless to say we left that early Barracuda in the A hole's driveway.

Great find and great story, glad the remainder of the trip was anti climactic and you got a chance to bond with your new Charger.

Great story! Glad to hear the trip went well.
You should be able to get the hood open with out the cable hooked up. Just rotate the lever that the cable is hooked to, can be done when standing in front of the hood. I can on mine.

Concerning advertised condition vs reality I can definitely sympathize. Love the hi dollar Hood Latch Emergency Manipulation Tool.

Most guys on there internet boards will go look at cars in there area for free or a small gas time charge . I know over on dodger charger there are several guys who live up in that area who could have looked at the car for you . Just my 2 cents if you buy one that far away again .......

Also I have several friends who are into these car and have parts and know about there eletrical problems . If you need anything for it or help

here is my sons project car

Nice Nice!! Who is doing the radio conversion for you?

These people were recommended by another member that does the EL dash repairs because they can do it without harming the EL in the radio.

Actually it sounds like quite an adventure and a good story to tell. Not all that bad, the car made the trip without breaking down.

Are you going to restore it to its factory KK1 color?

I ask because mine is also KK1.

No. I was looking for a car with good driver quality paint so I would not have that expense and the problems with bodyshop HELL.

My Hemi car is medium turquoise metallic and I like the color and it looks especially good with white interior but I am satisfied with the color it is.

Besides, the car is far from original now with the new engine, trans, rear end, A/C, suspension. so the color change is not going to do anymore to damage it's value. This car should I ever sell it (very unlikely) will find it's value with someone like me that WANTS what I have done.
