Winged Car abuse

I agree with what most everyone on here is sayin, but I also had something like this put into a different perspective for me one time.

I have a buddy whose whole family were a bunch of Ford freaks, and his father loved to restore old 57-59 Fairlanes. Retractables, Convertibles, Hardtops, whatever....... Once in my youth we were all sitting around watching an Andrew Dice Clay movie called Ford Fairlane and a scene came on where they blew one up! My buddy and I turned around to see the the look on his old mans face, thinking he might have a heart attack!!! Instead, he was SMILING!!!!! We said "Why are you smiling? I thought you loved Fairlanes?" to which his reply was "Well, there may be one less on the road, but that means when I go to get rid of mine it'll be worth that much more"........

Not sure if thats a good way to look at it or not, but it kinda cracked me up!

On the other hand...... There weren't very many of those Wing cars ever built, so maybe that guy should just be taken out back and :tied up:
Then get somebody with some deep pockets to "Make him an offer he can't refuse"~ The GodFather. :glasses7:

down force check this out

Just wondered what the story was on this car. Did somebody make a stock car out of a legit Bird?! OMG how much "corn liquor" do you have to consume to do such a thing!!! Don't have a facebook login. Really.

If this was built in the early '80s it wouldn't be too surprising. I used to race "run what you brung" circle track back then. Remember, thrashed out muscle cars were cheap back then. You could pick up just about any big block four speed car for $300 - $400 out of a back yard, put a roll cage in it and kick butt at the local 1/4 mile oval for a lot less money and effort than it took to make a 57 Chevy go fast. Mopars were especially popular because of the adjustable torsion bars; just crank up the right torsion bar bolt and turn left. Some of the cars that showed up at the Hermison, Oregon track (a long way from moonshine country) included a 69 Daytona, while a 63 big block sport fury convert and a 66 SS 396 4 speed convert both got cut up for replacement fenders. It hurts to think about it now, but my racing activities back then helped make mopar muscle much more scarce today.

People who refuse to let go of a treasure like this don't love cars, they hate them. No other reason to let it go to hell in the driveway for a quarter-century, other than sadistic contempt. Wonder if he even knows he's got three years worth of decent retirement salary sitting under that rotting cover?

These people own the cars , and other people want them ! That's life get over it! If it gives them a little happiness each day they go outside and look at it, I say keep it and the heck with everyone else.

These type of people who let these cars rot get PURE ENJOYMENT from people stopping & asking about their cars. They get almost as much enjoyment from getting offers as they would fixing & driving the cars themselves. I cant say much though. After buyin my 70 Bee I drove it awhile, then stripped it to restore. 12 years & 4 back surgeries later Im finally getting close to finished. Every time my back got screwed up I thought about selling so someone could get enjoyment from it. But I just couldnt do it. Mostly because people thought I needed the money & tried to take advantage of my situation, offering way less than its worth. But my stuborness is about to pay off.

Anyone remember the movie Two Lane Black top? Big Willie is in the first part of that movie and that Daytona is as well.

Yep, Remember the movie but barely.. That must have been an old thread you found it in! lol..

Lowhound, Good luck with your back and the finish line! you'll get it!

Yep, Talked to a lot of guys who always say those legendary words, "someday, im going to restore it" Those are the ones that get me, they know there not going to and if they see what you can do, well then, No way! :angryfire:

I wonder how many times somebody has knocked on that guys door and wants to look at the car and he goes out and uncovers it and they look and then offer him $5000.00? I've bought plenty of cars by giving the guy what he's asking if its a fair price. I've sold plenty of cars to people who were actually interested in buying them and not blowing smoke up my ***. Its not 1980. These cars are worth a whole lot more now but people think they can buy at 1980 prices. I have people that expect me to sell my stuff for nothing and then when i need something i have to pay 100 times the price. I quit selling stuff.

I DO remember (have) the movie, and know that Daytona in it. Didn't know about Big Willie though.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't big willy the guy waving the flag or getting them to the starting line?

I need to go watch that movie. I love that one and Vanishing point and Diryt Marry and Crazy Larry.
