You young pups who grew up with cell phones probably don't know much about CBs, but they were the quintessential accessory, after an 8-track player, for these cars back in the day. :) Every Roadrunner and Satellite I've owned I've had a CB in, and while they're really no longer needed for communications today, I was thinking about installing one in the 74 Roadrunner for sentimental reasons but even more importantly because the antenna helps break up that long dry spell of surface features along the backline of these cars.

What do you older guys think?

great old school look.back in the day you almost had to have one to drive any distance across the country, plus it did wounders for keeping the cops at bay.just ask bo and luke.

my thought are: CB's are outdated, but not useless...more of a survivalist/doomsday thing nowadays...i have one in my truck

It's your car, build/accessorize it to please you, not the masses...

I have had them also. It's still a great source for communication. Hook it Up! I have one sitting on my shelve. Been thinking about it myself.I remember back in the "Convoy" days of the '70s, some good listening..Look for short base antenna's with a magnetic base, not about to drill a hole in my plymouth.

10-4 Eleanor and 10-5 that jive...just don't 10-69 me! :D Go for it. I had a top of the line unit in the 80's when things were slowing down for CB's....wish I never got rid of it. My BIL just gave me one yesterday when he was cleaning up and working on his Jeep. I'm going to hook it up and see what's out there these days.

Yup. When the lights go out, old paranoid farts with generators and CBs will still be talkin. lol

I like to take one anytime I go on an out of state road trip.

I have a kick *** 1977 Midland, and my 73 Sat came with a 23 channel RCA.

I was associated with a 4x4 off road accident many years ago which unfortunately resulted in one death. CB got us help on the way

But even THEN there had to be ONE

The "bunch" that was our little club used to hang out on one channel, I don't even remember which. So I called on that channel, knowing that at least our bunch might be listening. The location of this wreck was down in a hole of a sand hill, and could not be seen, and no one else was around that we knew of

SOMEONE actually tried to chew me out!!!!

??????"Aren't you people supposed to have emergencies on channel 9"???????

I won't print what it was that I replied, but it certainly was not very polite!!!!!

When is the fox hunt!!!!!

I used to do those back in the day, still have the CB that was in my car with a trunk mount magnetic antenna! LOL

Been driving truck since 1989. Always had a cb in the truck.Had one in my 4x4 but nowadays the use of cb's has really cut down in use.I seldom have mine on because all i hear is somebody playing there stereo on it.I don't use any of the sidebands, upper/lower,but i know lots of guys that do.If you want to put a cb radio in your car i say go ahead I may even see you out-n-about and talk to you. 10-4 good buddy.Just don't get caught by cb savage.

Ive had one in my vehicles and home for 40 years, They were handy and agree not as needed as one was. My radio equipment i had the extra channels put in them so i can get high enough to get away from all the skip, I think if you want one you should do it.. Im not on mine very often anymore, seems 1/2 the guys are no longer with us, some moved away so unless im in the truck im never on it.. My wife didn't want one in her new car because she has a cell now if something happens, but they have saved her more then once calling me on the base set needing help..

That brings back memories of my mom's big 72 Electra 225 with a 454. We put one in that thing and cruzed the streets, lol...... GO FOR IT!

I think it's a great idea, esp if you have a bunch of members in a car club and you do poker runs or whatever.

The other thing I was looking at was that this car is mostly going to be driven to our Steelers club events, and I wanted to be able to crank out Steelers music from it. I have a couple 100W siren speakers, and I was going to use a Federal Signal PA300 siren unit with everything but the radio repeat function disabled, but then I would be blowing $100 or so on a piece of equipment that I would then have to essentially destroy. So I was thinking since most CBs have a PA function, I could either wire in a stereo connection or find a CB with a dedicated radio repeat function.

Go head and do it ! i would not Drill holes in the car to do it, but have fun with it.. I used run one in all my cars back in the day. Oh and i met my wife using a CB radio. I was 15 and she was 12. I Still have her ,but not the radio. What wrong with this ? sorry just thinking out loud !! LOL

I still got mine from "back in the day" with my turner "power mike"
