The "bunch" that was our little club used to hang out on one channel, I don't even remember which. So I called on that channel, knowing that at least our bunch might be listening. The location of this wreck was down in a hole of a sand hill, and could not be seen, and no one else was around that we knew of

I finally went forward with the CB install. I ended up doing it because I was tired of looking for a new ash tray face plate for the dash, so I mounted the radio pretty much over the ash tray so you can't see it anymore. Two problems solved. :) I got a nice 40-channel compact Uniden radio with a magnetic mount antenna for the trunk for $18 shipped off ebay.
 
Funny you should mention that. I remember the 70's being all about vans, CB's, jet boats and a few other good things. I just dug up an old Cobra 19 channel that I managed to keep since the mid 70's. I have a Midland 40 channel somewhere too and was thinking about putting one of them in my 71 F250 just because. I agree it would break up the lines of the car but if it were sort of an as needed thing you can just pop on a rain gutter mount version. However, it would be a natural fit on my 71 truck.
 
Yep, I had a CB in every road runner and satellite I've owned, so now this one has joined the club. :)
 
I had a Tram Diamond 60 with D104M and a 102 inch stainless steel whip antenna in my Road Runner. I knocked out the neon lights going into the drive in theatre once. Ran a Tram Titan 4 with stacked PDL 2s on the base with Astatic D-104 Golden Eagle lollypop mike.
 
About 20 of us had them in our cars back in high school. We would use them to inform others where the local cop was so we could raise a little hell with our cars and not worry about getting ticketed for unnecessary acceleration.
 
Im 22, I used to have one in my Malibu when I was 18. CBs are old, but not outdated. Cellphones are not supposed to be used while driving, CBs can. A cellphone cant meat random people driving through a state. And many truckers, local law enforcement, and 4x4s still have and use them at least here in north FL. And a CB always has signal. I loved mine and I was on it all the time, now I want one in my charger for the same reason. Its social.

No, really... mine are all for sport... and, and target practice.... really...

Last month came across my wife's "emergency CB" that her dad gave her 35+ years ago when she went off to collage. It's a nice little portable unit, plugs into the cigarette lighter, small magnetic antenna, and a hand held "walky-talky" w/channel and squelch knobs. It's now in her truck behind the rear seat.

I think it's a great addition to the Roadrunner.

Yea back in the day everybody had one. I have one in my jeep, sometimes you dont get cell coverage when your rompin in the woods. I had a 79 ram charger with a factory am/fm/cb, that was cool but not too good reception. I still have that around somewhere, maybe someday I'll get mid to late 70's Mopar to put it in.
 
I had the road runner at a car show this weekend, and people were making the biggest fuss over that CB! :) They would see the antenna, then look in the car and say "wow, he really does have a CB in there!" I must have heard a dozen times how a CB really looks good in a 70's car.
 
Geeze, I just took one out...guess I'll have to put it back in, now!
 
Used to have them in every vehicle i had back in the day,my cuda does not have one but i just bought a small radio shack 40 channel with a mag mount for 5 bucks at a yard sale and installed it in my truck. Just cause every rednecks truck is suppose to have a cb.
 
I know the cell phones are the deal now, probably why some surprised to see a CB in the classic cars.. I just wish it was like it used to be when locals were on every day or night, Never had to worry about getting broke down in those days and not finding someone to lend a hand. Heck I do think they make the car look cooler but most i know do not agree anymore, usually because of the antenna.
 
Good idea on the CB! I had one in my first car... a Honda CRX! Used to chat with truckers and talk **** when I was bored driving around. I should get one in the Charger and relive the glory days...
 
It's kind of surprising to hear how little CBs are used now. Every truck I see on the highway has an antenna on it, but it's not like it was in the 70s or 80s. Even when driving on the highway, there isn't much chatter going on. Back in the day it was hard to get a statement out due to all the gabbing going on, but channel 19 and 11 are both pretty quiet now even with all the truckers around.
 
It's not a dumb idea I don't think to have one operational. You never know when the sheeot will hit the fan. Then no more cell phones. I gotta Realistic Navaho base and an Antron 99 omin directional antenna at the house with some unmentionables in between. We're on high ground and my antenna is over 100' in a pine tree. I can key up barefoot and talk to Warner Robins and put 7 pounds on my buddies gauge and that's 65 miles away. There's a lot to be said for old technology.
 
You gotta love those unmentionables. :) My only issue with doing stuff like that is having a CB that's transmit more than four miles is only useful if there's someone listening with a rig that can transmit the same distance back.
