I keep thinking back to the early 1980s. There was a guy with a 72 Roadrunner that used to cruise Blanding Blvd. down here in Jacksonville. He had a custom-made front spoiler that was about three feet wide that had MOPAR POWER painted on it. It was different from the stock eye brow spoilers and looked pretty nice, and I was thinking of making one for the 74 Roadrunner.

There's a front spoiler off a Volare roadrunner on ebay right now that I was thinking I could modify. I was also thinking about the front air dam that 2003 and newer Ford Police Interceptors have would make a good source part for modification and those are pretty cheap to find in junkyards.

My only problem would be if adding a front spoiler would necessitate the adding of a rear spoiler to make the car look balanced?

I seen this one that someone else posted and i realy like .. wish i knew were to get one .. wondering if it would force more air up threw my engine department . dont want a scoop and need more air

That's very similar to the air dam on the interceptors, only maybe a little thicker. I think I'll go pull one at the junkyard this weekend.

Yes, Please keep us posted.. Ive wondered what or even if you could put those on the 73 or 74, I was curious if they would look good. I think they look good on the 71-72 cars but there is a big difference in the front ends, speaking of shape only here. I don't know the correct name for them but always liked the set that has a short one on each side. I understand your basically fabing one and would like to see how you do it, what it looks like.. heck of an idea to try.. I don't see why you would actually have to have a wing so as to somehow match one, i think that to would be up to you looking at it or maybe Photo-shop a picture with and without.. But i think it would look good either way it wouldn't look to me like "there should be a wing"

Damn I love that too, time to research!

Well don't just make one. I live far enough away that our cars will not show up at the same party wearing the same spoiler.

As I recall, the guy with the spoiler back in the day just had it cut out by a body shop and fitted to the car. Nothing fancy at all, which is what I like. :)

Is that possibly a first gen Camaro spoiler modified to fit?

I've seen several 73/74 cars that have the little 71/72 eyebrow spoilers, and I believe JC Whitney used to sell repops of the spoilers and showed them fitting 71-74 cars. I just haven't seen a 71-74 car with a full spoiler since that guy who used to run on Blanding, so I think it would be more unique than the eyebrow spoilers.

Do you know what they were made of? The Volare spoiler I was looking at is made of rubber or plastic, which makes it easier to cut and shape. I'm guessing fitting one made of fiberglass would be a tougher ordeal.

They do look pretty cool... Thanks Bruzilla, i might check and see if they have any, maybe a picture (diagram, measurements) of the eyebrow spoilers, and who knows, maybe they have these full length ones to.. Just something ive thought about from time to time.. I don't see how they would help to much getting more air in the engine bay though..

Bruzilla and all - I've got a link to a guy that makes 'em for 73-4's - planning on getting one myself.

That spoiler in the pics sure looks like a 69 Camaro spoiler, and those are selling for like $30. I might have to give one of those a try and see if they can be fitted.

An air dam is designed to move air, while spoilers are used to generate downforce on the front end.

Got mine at site mentioned above "spoilers by randy"...good quality..easy install

Cool , Hawg_man ..... I'm in primer now and front valance is off, might be a better time to buy as I can measure/drill easier with the valance on a workbench ?

yep

True, Ive watched racing a long time but im not the one looking for extra air in the engine area.. I mentioned it as that wouldn't solve the problem is all... The snorkel inserts on the hood could be converted maybe into something to gain more air, im sure there is a way but not with these.. agreed. :)

The last 73 I had, I removed the ribbed inserts from the hood inlets and cut out the area behind them with a dremel. Then I filled the open area with heavy mesh screen that I painted orange. The openings are too low to the hood and in the roiled air area so a ram air system won't work, but I made a large baseplate with a rubber seal around it that sealed the plate to the hood. This allowed the engine to pull in cooler air through the bulge openings.

I put one on my 73 RR a couple of years ago and really think it completes the look i was shooting for.
