I Saw a 440 that is complete in the junk yard today for $325.00 & wondering if anybody could tell me if this bad boy would have or should have a steal crank ?

should have get the numbers from it and decode it, and check if it is externally balanced water motor

I think 74 is when they started to use the cast iron crank.. Not positive on it..

Thinking of going back tomorrow, to get other stuff i saw,if i go will definitely get #, where should i look, on the block passenger side i think?

Chances are it's not a steel crank if it's a 74 or even a 73. Next to the distributor is a pad that will have the engine size and other markings. The block will have a casting date on the side up near the head. Even if it's a cast crank it will still be fine for a hot street motor.
