Someone at a recent all Mopar Show told me that cars off the line with the Magnum 500 wheel and redline tires came with red painted brake drums. I never remember seeing this back in the day or am I just senile???

Yes, some did. I think it was only the high performance cars, Scat Pack or Rapid Transit type cars. I know my '69 Super Bee has the red drums from the factory and the factory Road Wheels.

Interesting, I wonder if all lines did this or just some lines.

And on disc brake cars I believe the caliper face where it is visible through the wheel was painted red too.

i was going to paint all the drums on the Road Runner purple to match the paint....then i decided against it!

i thought the mag 500 road wheels were a dealer option?...in that case the dealer would have painted them red ????

I'm sure the dealer could order them for a car "after the fact", but the wheels were definitely a "factory option" and normally ordered when the car was ordered. As such, the factory also did the painting on the drums. This was normal assembly line stuff. The road wheels are option code W21, see below.

No such wheel ever existed. There were Magnum 500s and road wheels. Two different wheels.

I'm not sure that I have the original drums on the Dana for my `68 Coronet R/T but they do have 5 spots of red spraybomb that would line up with openings in the road wheels.
