'72 Charger project

Well now you got to take care of yourself. How did you rupture the tendon in your elbow?
that's a very good question. Over the last week' my arm was a bit sore.. Took a little advil,, and all seemed fine. Sunday I reached for something quickly... And it felt like Prince Fielder hit me in the elbow with a bat. After that, my arm from the elbow down was pretty much useless. So, work has slowed....but we are still making progress

Things have slowed quite a bit on progress. We have verified that the hood will not fit. Looks like we will need to find a bulge hood. Not sure if a decent shape steel one can be found or go for fiberglass. Also found our hood latch is missing a spring on the side of it, still need A/C hoses, and need to finish up the front and rear valance. Still hoping to make it to the highschool drags this Saturday at Milan, but it will be close. I'll see if I can get some pics up tonight

So that’s were those parts are going on. That Charger is looking real good. I hope you make it this Saturday.

Thanks Bill. Getting very close. Its been a lot of fun...but I'm ready to get some garage space back

Hope that arm gets better fast there Matt! Didn't want to jinx ya man, Maybe this will give you some time to locate the parts you need, Maybe someone has a hood here that would work, just thinking out loud a little but have you considered a scoop of some sort? If i remember right this is about the air cleaner.. Could be a way out of a hood and lots of money in shipping costs. If you could find one thats going to look right to your son and yourself.

enough car work for today...time to watch the Tigers!
made some progress, seats in, wheels on, mirrors on, wiper motor and wipers on, still scratching my head on the hood.
Here is a pic from the garage spy cam

Lol, I got one of those spy cam deals, slicker then heck in the winter! Looks great nice wheels!

How have I missed this thread? Great looking car. You have the same intake as me. It will clear a power buldge hood, but I don't think it wouls clear a flat one? Awesome looking charger.

Almost there!

The Charger is looking good. You have to be excited for taking the car for that first drive.

thanks, yes, getting pretty pumped about Devin being able to take it to the highschool drags on Saturday if all goes right. I did get the car to drive out of the garage today on its own power. I'll be painting the front and rear valance tonight.

great looking charger great job.

pulled an all nighter last night and got the front and rear valance done and mounted. Finished up a few misc brackets and drove it up to my son at school. He did an alignment on it there and decided he would drive it to work. Sounded nice.

Had a Great day today! Finished 99% of the car this morning at 6, loaded on the trailer and headed to the Milan Highschool drags by 7. Didnt really know what to expect since the car has not been driven more than for an alignment.
It was raining when we left home, but stopped before we got there. Found we have some big traction issues with the car..I know we didnt have drag radials, but thought it would have been better. On Devins first time trial run....I told him to see what it will do...well, a highschool kid can be very focused. He laid into it from the start...and left a 1/8 mile smokey burnout that even John Force would have been proud of.....LOL. So after that, he tried the gentle roll in approach...still quite a bit of spin, but by the end of the day he learned to feather it away. We did find that we need to adjust the lokar trans cable. Anything other than a full throttle start from a standstill ends up with a quicker than wanted shift to 2nd gear. So for the most part, he was leaving in 2nd gear, for an 1/8 mile run with ( I think it was) a 2.54 rear gear. Either way, we had a blast and Devin made it to the final round...where he lost. But , the winning kid had a parent along for the ride, talking them through the wait to stage game and everyting else....ah well, we had a great day!PA200018.jpgPA200026.jpgPA200028.jpg

So what did u end up using for the air cleaner? I'm digging the flat black hood.

Thanks...the hood was a last minute addition. Since we had put it off for so long and no body work or anything had been done, we did a quick sand and spray last night. its actually Rustoleum Satin Black. We ordered this aircleaner from Summit http://www.summitracing.com/parts/AFC-80550 used a 3 inch filter and fits without an issue.

Cool. I'll hafta try one. I bought a3" k&n filter but haven't been able to use it. Maybe now i can. R u useing a Holley or a eddy carb?

We have an Eddy...and had to take the electric choke off. I think I could have done a few mods to the filter housing, but was out of time

Sounds like you and your son had fun. What was your track time?

Man Matt, seeing that car out and it going down the road, you sure did a nice job on it! And i agree, it does sound like you both had fun.. Hood looks good and glad you got it figured out..

Pretty neat to see father/son project come together, and built at home. Nice job!
