where is the 1966-67 charger love?

Since i have purchased my 1966 charger 383 4 speed, i have really begun to appreciate the car after taking awhile to iron all its problems out.

It just feels like they are frowned apon compared to the 1968-70s, i understand that those cars saw alot more movie time then the first gen. But is that all it is? From my research its not hard to get a decent 383 66 daily driver for much more then 15,000. When a 68 383 would be 25,000 plus.

I think iv spent more time just sitting in a chair lookin at my car and enjoying the body lines then i have actually driving the car. Dont get me wrong I love the newer chargers but i feel the first gen ones should get some more spot light then they are.
 
IDK, I think for a lot of people you either love'em or hate'em. Personally I never much cared for that body but as the years have passed I have grown to appreciate them. I suspect I am not alone in that which is reflected by the amount of aftermarket stuff (metal, etc...) for the 68-70 versus the first gens.
 
IM001761.JPGI'm a sucker for the 66/67 B bodies. The exterior lines and stance can be outstanding plus the interior and dash are not chessey like the over padded 68 thru 70 B bods. The only issue with Myself is which to own....had a 66 coronet radtop,,,then a 67 R/T....then a 67 GTX....just went back to a 67 R/T driving project.
 
I am also a big fan of the 66-67 B bodies and am currently building a 1966 model Charger. There are so many unique and interesting styling components on this car I never get tired of it, plus the 66-67 B models "drive smaller" in my opinion, feeling a lot more nimble than the later cars to me. Like anything else, a matter of subjective opinion but as pretty as the 68-70 B bodies are I prefer the earlier designs.
 
I'm on my 4th 66/67 Coronet. I love the roof line and the body contours.
I'd definately be interested in picking up a 66/67 Charger if I could find a solid one with the options I want, for a reasonable price and close enough.

I agree they seem lighter (and I believe they are), and less bulky than later Bs (Coronet anyway).

There are more than a few 68-70 "snobs" and even 68-71 snobs that wont look at anything before 68 or past 70 or 71.
 
I used to think the 66-67 Chargers were ugly as hell. Now I'm on the complete opposite side of that opinion. They're awesome. And the 4-bucket interior is just a bonus. I'd buy one in a heartbeat and drive it everywhere if I didn't have to get rid of my big red bird to make room for it!

Nice car! I love the torque thrust wheels - although I'm a fan of a little bit wider tire - something to fill out those cavernous wheel wells (just a personal preference). But put me in the 66-67 Charger love group!
 
I drive my '67 Charger all the time... Love it. What's funny to me is how many people don't realize what they are. I had mine at a show, parked next to my brother's '66. Some guy was looking at it strangely and said to me, "That must be a really early Challenger." I said, no it's a Charger. That one over there too. "No, I'm pretty sure that's a Challenger," he said. I pointed him at the badges and walked away.

Here is my 67 I have allways loved the 1st gens and allways will. My car gets as much attention as most 2nd gens at the shows I go to. I like all of them and even had a 3rd gen years back til someone stold it.
 
We have a pair of 66 383 4spd Chargers...one I have owned since 1974...the other since 1995

yea, they are a love 'em or hate 'em car...they did have their issues with rotating headlights, dash lights, & gauges

i also believe the 66-67 were more of a luxury car where the 68-70 were more of a factory race car for nascar and ****.i love the look of the 66-67 coronet,its beautiful and looks like it is meant for a drag strip but that year in the charger looks hideous but this is my opinion and i am sure many people love them.another fact is that everyone loves a movie car and with all 3 years of the gen 2 in big movies alot of people would be loving them.
 
I have never been a big fan of them, but since owning my hemi 4 spd car I've grown to appreciate it more. I have always liked the interior! By far the coolest interior going out of the B bodies! I also have a 66 hemi Belvedere 4 spd project car and push comes to shove I'll keep the Bel over the Charger any day.
 
I think the key to them is filling up the rear wheel well...

A 67 was my first Mopar, I always did like them.. Some do say its a either love-em or hate-em thing but there really a cool car and for me, driving a 63 SS Impala, i just couldn't believe the interior in my Charger that first day and then night with the dash in it lite up...
 
Thats a pretty fast 1/4 mile, im hoping to take mine to the track next summer. Is it wishful thinking for a 10.5 to 1 383, 480. lift cam, headers, 3.91 sure grip, 4speed break into the high 13s?
