This question is for the Mopar experts on 1967 GTX 4 speed cars. Do ALL 1967 GTX's with a 4 speed come from the factory with a Dana rear end?
It has been suggested that if a certain gear ratio was wanted it had to come in a 8 3/4 Sure Grip.
Does anyone know.
Thanks

Stock was the Dana with 3.54s. I've never seen any evidence that an 8.75 was ever available behind a 440 four speed. Anyone that claims different would have to have documentation to prove it.

How close do the date codes need to be if I were to buy the correct Dana rear end? Does the Dana mount up the exact same way as the 8 3/4? Why would some one swap out the Dana for a 8 3/4
Thanks

Yes, it mounts the same or should. The pads for leaf springs are 44" center to center and the housing for 66-67 cars measures 54 1/4". If memory serves me correct the overall from flange to flange will be 59 1/2" You may need a different length drive shaft though, good luck.

My information shows 62-70 B-body 8-3/4" flange to flange = 55" and 66-70 Dana flange to flange = 54.936". Also, 4-speed 440's and Hemi's got Dana's but optional with automatics.

The only reason I can think to put a 8-3/4" in a car that has a good Dana in it would be for gear ratio considerations. Dana's only had 3.54 or 4.10 stock gear options I believe.

Hope this helps!

This is the correct chart. I have all these rears and have check this to be correct. The chart on Moparts that says there is one 62-70 housing width is wrong. Danas should follow the same.
Rear end widths, drum-to-drum: B BODY
'62-'63= 58 1/2" (And '64 Max Wedge)
'64 = 60 7/8" (Exc.Max Wedge)
'65-'67= 59 1/2"
'68-'70= 60 1/8"
'71-'74= 63"
'71-'73 wagon= 64 3/8"

Housing widths, flange to flange B BODY
'62-'63= 53 1/4" (And '64 Max Wedge)
'64 = 55 5/8" (Exc. Max Wedge)
'65-'67= 54 1/4"
'68-'70= 54 15/16"
'71-'74= 57 7/8"
'71-'73 wagon= 59 7/16"

Would have to agree.

yes and the same for R/T

440 and hemi with 4 spd got the Dana automatically. However, I have a friend with a 69 hemi GTX with an auto and it has the Dana but I think it's a track pack car with 4.10's.

The driveshaft between the Dana and 8.75 is different, with the Dana shaft being shorter. Also the Dana will probably have the 1330 U joints and the 8.75" will use the 7290's.

You could special order the dana for a 67 GTX I have a numbers correct dana for a 67 if interested. It has the Power Lock and 2 piece center section. All original

A 48 AX code indicates an automatic car (8.75 axle) with Sure Grip. You may have a factory misstamp, a bad reproduction tag or a transmission swap. What is the number one line below the 68 and one space to the left? If it was origianally a four speed you should find a 3. If it was originally an automatic, it should be a 5.

That's certainly possible. That would be the A32 Super Performance axle package (automatic with 4:10s).

I have a 67 4 speed gtx with a 8/3/4 from the factory any questions let me know it states it on the fender tag

The fender tag says 3 for 4 speed and 48 for axle code

The fender tag says 3 for 4 speed and 48 for ax code I know its supposed to be a dana but the tag says what it says

I dont think dana's were available until 68, so a 67 on down would only have an 8 3/4, if I understood the whole thread.
